Description
Olivie Sägebrecht is a historical figure in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid, presented as the last Saint King of the ancient Belkan era. She was born a princess of the Sägebrecht family, the leading house of the Saint King Alliance, aboard the Saint's Cradle, the massive airborne fortress associated with the Belkan royal line. She is depicted as a young woman with blonde hair and green eyes. During a period of turmoil known as the Saint King Unification War, she held the position of Saint King and ultimately died after the fall of the Cradle, an event that marked the end of Belkan royal rule.
Before that conflict, she lived in the Hegemony of Shutra alongside the hegemon Klaus Ingvalt and her companion Willfried Jeremiah. Accounts of her life, including records left by Jeremiah, describe her as a kind-hearted young woman who took up the throne out of a desire to protect people suffering from war and the individuals she held dear, even at great personal cost. She carried the burdens of her position despite the danger, and her death left those closest to her with lasting regret, particularly Klaus Ingvalt, who was devoted to her and could not prevent her fate.
Her personal history includes a significant loss: she lost an arm in a magical accident, and the same accident left her unable to bear children. Because of this, her bloodline ended with her. Centuries later, however, the scientist Jail Scaglietti created the girl Vivio Takamachi as a clone of Olivie, using DNA obtained from her preserved shroud, which had been kept by the religious institution that grew out of her legacy. Olivie is therefore often described as Vivio's only ancestor, and Vivio's very appearance, including her adult Sankt Kaiser form, echoes Olivie's own.
In the story, Olivie is not an active participant but a figure of memory and legacy. She is first properly named and depicted in ViVid, with her character filled in through flashbacks, historical notes, and the emotional ties connecting the modern cast to the ancient past. Her gentle nature and her wish for peace stand in contrast to the violence of the era she lived in, and the series gradually reveals her true feelings in a way that deepens the audience's understanding of her.
Her relationships define much of her legacy. Klaus G. S. Ingvalt, her close companion, becomes the ancestor of Einhart Stratos, and the bond between the two ancient houses continues to shape the younger generation in the series. Willfried Jeremiah, who lived alongside her in Shutra, also carries knowledge of her story. Most importantly, Vivio inherits not only Olivie's genetic material but also, in a thematic sense, her warmth and her hopes; the struggles Vivio faces in coming to terms with being Olivie's clone form a major part of her personal journey.
In terms of abilities, Olivie was a powerful magic user of ancient Belka and also a golem meister, meaning a practitioner skilled in the creation of golems. As the Saint King, she wielded the authority and magical power of the Belkan royal line, a power so significant that it became the basis of religious reverence and later of Vivio's transformation into her adult Sankt Kaiser mode. The exact range of her combat abilities is not recorded in the story in great detail, but her status as the final Saint King places her among the most important magical figures of her age. Through the story's handling of her memory, she comes across as a compassionate and self-sacrificing ruler whose legacy continues to influence events long after her death.
