Description
Aiolos di Sagittarius is a pivotal character in the anime Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, serving as the spiritual and moral cornerstone for the other Gold Saints. As the older brother of Leo Aiolia, Aiolos is a Sagittarius Gold Saint who died fourteen years prior to the main events of the original series, having sacrificed his life to protect the infant goddess Athena. His actions in the past earned him the false posthumous reputation of a traitor, but in truth, he is regarded as the ultimate paradigm of a saint, possessing an unparalleled combination of wisdom, humanity, and courage.

In Soul of Gold, Aiolos is resurrected alongside the other eleven Gold Saints who had perished during the previous Holy War against Hades. His character is defined by his unwavering nobility, selflessness, and quiet strength. Even without his memory of recent events, his fundamental nature as a protector and a leader remains intact. He is a man of few words who lets his actions speak for him, driven by the singular motivation to continue fulfilling his sacred duty: to protect Athena and ensure justice prevails. Unlike some of the other resurrected saints who struggle with their second chance at life, Aiolos accepts his role immediately, focused on the mission to stop the邪神 Loki from taking over the world of Asgard.

Aiolos plays a crucial, albeit initially mysterious, role in the story. He is the first of the Gold Saints to be resurrected in Asgard, appearing near the great World Tree Yggdrasil. He directly confronts the antagonist Andreas Lise, managing to fire a golden arrow that pierces Andreas’s left eye before being overwhelmed by the World Tree’s power and falling from a great height. This event sets the main plot in motion. After being found and nursed back to health by a local maiden, he learns from the former ruler of Asgard, Hilda, the truth about Andreas being an avatar of Loki. From the shadows, Aiolos works to understand the nature of the World Tree and the邪神’s plan, eventually gathering crucial information that aids his fellow Saints.

His most significant relationship is with his younger brother, Aiolia. The narrative of Soul of Gold heavily focuses on their brotherly bond. Having died when Aiolia was just a child, Aiolos had left behind a legacy that his brother had to live up to under the shadow of his "traitor" label. Upon their reunion, Aiolos serves as a pillar of support and inspiration for Aiolia, who is the protagonist of the series. In the final battle against Loki, the two brothers fight side-by-side, combining their powers in a way that highlights their deep, unspoken connection. Furthermore, the series provides a poignant moment of closure when Aiolos reconciles with Gemini Saga, the man who killed him and framed him for treason, forgiving him in their final moments.

While Aiolos does not undergo a dramatic personality shift throughout Soul of Gold, his development lies in his transition from a legendary, almost mythical figure from the past into a tangible, active hero. He finally gets to directly participate in a battle alongside his comrades and his brother, rather than just aiding them through his lingering will. The climax sees him don the Sagittarius God Cloth, an evolved form of his Gold Cloth granted by Athena, showcasing his full, magnificent power. In the end, having fulfilled his mission to stop Loki and protect Athena once more, Aiolos, along with the other resurrected Gold Saints, fades away, returning to the peace of death with his honor fully restored and his bonds reaffirmed.

As a Gold Saint, Aiolos is one of the twelve most powerful warriors under Athena, capable of moving and attacking at the speed of light. His primary weapon is the bow and arrow of the Sagittarius Cloth, a weapon he rarely uses but which carries immense, near-unerring power. His signature technique is the Atomic Thunderbolt, a powerful energy attack that launches a massive volley of lightning-charged spheres at his opponent. In Soul of Gold, he demonstrates his peak ability by manifesting the Sagittarius God Cloth, which greatly enhances his cosmos and physical capabilities, allowing him to fight on par with a god such as Loki.
