Description
Afrodite de Peixe is the Gold Saint of the Pisces constellation, recognized as the most beautiful among the 88 Saints of Athena. In Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, he is resurrected as an Einherjar in Asgard after his death at the Wailing Wall, becoming one of the key protagonists in the battle against the false god Loki. He is 22 years old, stands 1.83 meters tall, and weighs 72 kilograms, with a birth date of March 10th. While his hair is blonde in the original manga, it is adapted to a lighter shade of blue in the Soul of Gold anime, where he also appears with a more elegant physique and a noticeably serious expression. In his casual attire, he wears a light pink shirt with white pants, an outfit that enhances his androgynous and graceful appearance.
Afrodite initially presents a personality that is somewhat narcissistic, showing a deep appreciation for his own beauty, a trait that echoes other elegant warriors in the series. However, this superficial demeanor masks a much more serious and dedicated character. When engaged in battle or pursuing his objectives, he becomes intensely focused, concentrated, and even aggressive. He firmly holds the belief that power is justice, a philosophy he has carried from his past life, yet paradoxically, he is also the Gold Saint who most deeply cares about maintaining peace on the surface world. True to this conviction, he demonstrates significant altruism and courage, particularly when he risks himself to save the flower shop girl Helena and warns his comrade, Deathmask, to flee from danger.
Afrodite is first seen in a village in Asgard at Helena's flower shop, where he meets Deathmask. He quickly becomes aware that something is wrong in Asgard and senses the presence of other Gold Saints. His primary motivation is to uncover the truth behind the machinations of the God Warriors and the World Tree, Yggdrasil. Using his unique ability to communicate with plants, he learns that the cosmos being absorbed by the God Warriors is being channeled directly into Yggdrasil. He then successfully infiltrates the base of Fafner of Nidhogg, confronting the God Warrior. In this battle, Afrodite demonstrates his overwhelming power by defeating Fafner with relative ease, using the paralyzing aroma of his roses and his Royal Demon Rose technique. By touching his forehead to Fafner's, he extracts all the information he needs on how to destroy the barrier protecting Yggdrasil, which he telepathically transmits to Mu. During his escape, he rescues Helena but is ultimately pierced and captured by the roots of the World Tree when Andreas, the Representative of Odin, intervenes.
Afrodite has a notable relationship with Deathmask of Cancer, with whom he is often seen. Their dynamic is casual and familiar, with Deathmask even chiding Afrodite for nearly revealing their identities as Saints of Athena. In the final battle, Afrodite makes a partnership with Deathmask to attack Loki. His most crucial contribution to the story, however, is his survival. Due to his complete immunity to any plant toxins, Afrodite was able to resist being fully absorbed by Yggdrasil. While imprisoned, he simulated a state of apparent death for himself and all the other captured Gold Saints, a ruse that even deceived the god Loki. This act of deception was essential, as it ensured the survival of the entire Gold Saint contingent until they could be freed to launch their final assault. Afrodite later joins his comrades in the final confrontation, donning his Pisces God Cloth after receiving Athena's blessing, and fights alongside them to help Aiolia deliver the decisive blow against Loki. After the victory, as their time in Asgard comes to an end, Afrodite, in a final gesture of elegance, takes Deathmask by the arm and suggests they make their exit with style.
As a Gold Saint, Afrodite is a master of the Seventh Sense, granting him superhuman speed, agility, and the ability to move at the speed of light. His primary combat abilities revolve around the generation and manipulation of roses. He wields three distinct types: the red Royal Demon Rose, whose venomous thorns and pollen slowly rob the victim of their five senses; the black Piranhan Rose, which possesses immense destructive power capable of shattering anything it touches; and his ultimate technique, the white Bloody Rose, which homes in on the enemy's heart and drains all the blood from their body, turning red as it kills them. Beyond these attacks, Soul of Gold highlights his unique botanical powers. He possesses empathy with and can communicate with plants, which he used to locate Fafner's base. He can read minds by probing an opponent's nervous system, a skill he used on Fafner. His body is naturally immune to all plant-based toxins, a key ability that allowed him to save the other Gold Saints from Yggdrasil.
