Description
Bart Garsus is a first-class citizen from the male planet of Taraak, born into wealth as his parents owned a successful food production company. Despite his privileged background, his initial personality stands in stark contrast to his social standing, as he is portrayed as easily excitable, weak, and notably cowardly. He is known for his tendency to flee from difficulties and to make a fuss over minor injuries, often serving as a source of comic relief.

His role within the story becomes defined when he, along with Hibiki Tokai and Duero McFile, is stranded aboard the battleship Nirvana. Though he initially tries to ingratiate himself with the female crew by boasting of his skills, he genuinely discovers that he possesses the unique ability to pilot and navigate the ship, a role the vessel itself seems to have chosen for him. This makes him an indispensable member of the crew, even if his fearful demeanor often overshadows his competence.

A significant turning point in Bart's development occurs early in the series when he encounters a terminally ill little girl on a polluted planet. Moved by her situation, he shows genuine compassion, telling her embellished stories and making her laugh. When the planet comes under threat from a Harvest ship, Bart displays true courage for the first time, fighting off the enemy almost single-handedly using the Nirvana's transformed weapons. However, the girl succumbs to her illness while he is away. She had been crafting a doll of him but left it unfinished, with the hair incomplete. In her memory, Bart shaves his head to match the doll's appearance and wears it as a pendant, a constant and poignant reminder of his loss.

As the series progresses, Bart continues to mature. He develops romantic feelings for his superior officer, BC (also known as Buzam A. Calessa), and remains committed to pursuing a relationship with her even after discovering her secret. While he becomes more settled and contributes to the successive transformations of the Nirvana, he largely retains his role as a source of comic relief throughout the narrative.
