Description
Parfet Balblair is the chief engineer of the Nirvana, the vessel central to the Vandread story, and she appears throughout the franchise, including in the Vandread Turbulence installment. She is an eighteen-year-old girl with brown hair that reaches chest length and is usually styled in two large pigtails, along with big round glasses that keep her eyes partially hidden. Her appearance is often described as studious, and her manner is cheerful and friendly. She tends to avoid confrontation and is consistently supportive of the people around her, especially when it comes to the romantic feelings of her friend Dita.
Her primary responsibility is keeping the ship operational. She spends much of her time monitoring the Paeksys control system and the ship's engines, but she also enjoys building inventions for the crew on special occasions, such as a snow machine she worked hard to complete for a Christmas celebration. She believes that machines are alive in some way, and this outlook shapes her careful, dedicated approach to her work. She can fix nearly anything and is almost always occupied with some technical project, making her an essential and dependable presence among the crew.
In terms of relationships, her closest bond is with Duelo, the ship's doctor. The two are paired together early in the story while caring for a common patient, and they grow increasingly close as events unfold. By the end of the series, their connection develops into a mutual attraction, and she shows clear jealousy when another crew member accidentally ends up grabbing hold of Duelo instead of her intended target. Her development is largely shown through this growing bond and through her steady, practical contributions to the crew's efforts. Her notable abilities lie in her mechanical skill, her inventiveness, and her willingness to use those talents to help others in both ordinary and difficult situations.
