Description
Analyzer, designated R-9 Autonomous Type Shipborne Analysis Unit (AU-09), serves aboard the United Nations Cosmo Navy battleship Yamato as a crew member in charge of analysis. From a specialized cradle on the main bridge, it monitors computer operations and sensors. Compact and non-humanoid, Analyzer has a hemispherical head, two arms, short legs ending in multi-wheeled feet, and thrusters for zero-gravity maneuverability. Its artificial intelligence is based on an advanced quantum computer cluster system, allowing an independent personality that expresses a range of human-like emotions despite a robotic monotone. Built-in abilities include a high-powered laser in its left index finger, extendable fingertips for manipulation and direct computer access, and sensors that detect chemical composition, temperature, life signs, and decay rates. For heavy labor and excursions, it can deploy a large exoskeleton. Analyzer forms a deep friendship with Dr. Sakezo Sado and works closely with Lieutenant Kaoru Niimi. It studies and repairs a captured Garmilloid robot nicknamed Alter, learning the Garmillas language and software systems. This knowledge proves vital in deactivating a drill missile lodged in the Yamato and developing a computer virus to disable enemy soldiers. Analyzer later sustains critical damage during the Golem Assault Battle, thanks Dr. Sado, and shuts down permanently. A new identical unit is later assigned to the refitted Yamato, but Dr. Sado rejects it. The original Analyzer’s damaged components temporarily regain partial functionality. Its design directly influences the development of early 23rd-century AU13 command AIs.
