Description
Deda serves as a captain in the Dezarian military, commanding the Modified Pleiades-class Assault Battleship known as the Great Pleiades. He is a prominent commander within the Dezariam Army and plays a key role in the events known as the Iscandar Incident. His origins are tied to the Dezarian people, a bionic humanoid species from the metal planet Dezarium, located in a double-galaxy far from Earth. As part of the Magellan Dispatch Force, Deda and his fleet travel from the future year 3198 back to October 2205 on a mission to capture the planet Iscandar and transport it to their home world, Dezariam.
In terms of appearance, Deda is a physically imposing figure with light blue-grey skin, a broad, muscular build, and a bald head with prominent temples and cheekbones. He possesses blue eyes and notably, when entering combat, his sclera turn a light blue and a dark outline forms around his eyes, a characteristic unique to his species. His standard attire consists of a white Dezarian uniform accented with grey geometric patterns, complemented by a red-lined cape that can materialize directly onto his body.
Deda is characterized by a disciplined and stoic demeanor, often described as a stalwart commander. In his private moments aboard the Great Pleiades, he tends to sit in silence and is known to be an enjoyer of classical music, giving him an air reminiscent of an ancient warrior who trains the body while nourishing the soul with art. However, this quiet composure is severely tested during the battles against the forces of Garmillas and Earth. As he engages in combat for the first time, he awakens new and unfamiliar emotions within himself, including impatience, anxiety, recklessness, and a sense of anticipation. He also discovers a previously unknown enjoyment for fighting. This emotional awakening surprises him, and he ultimately attributes these feelings to the near realization of Dezariam's grand ambition, known as the "Thousand Years Dream."
Deda's primary motivation is to fulfill his military objectives for the Dezariam Empire. He is a capable and determined commander, focused on eliminating what his superiors refer to as "noise"—elements of the past that do not align with their historical records and interfere with their mission. His dedication to the cause is unwavering, as he follows orders to deploy assault fighters against refugee ships and to capture Iscandar, even ignoring communications from the Iscandar royal family.
His role in the story is largely defined by his antagonistic actions in the Vorzon system. Deda leads his fleet to form a blockade around Iscandar and participates directly in the battle against the Garmillan refugee fleet and the Earth Federation's 65th Escort Corps, led by the space battleship Yamato. He serves under a superior officer named Meldarz, who provides him with strategic direction and advises him to maintain his composure under fire. During the battle, Deda orders his forces to focus their fire on the Yamato, successfully interrupting its wave motion gun firing sequence. As the Dezarian fleet closes in, Deda becomes more emotionally charged, believing victory is imminent. However, the Yamato sacrifices its remaining power to activate a wave motion shield, protecting itself from the volleys of Deda's fleet. This allows the Yamato to fire its wave motion gun, which ultimately destroys the Great Pleiades and Deda along with it. In his final moments, he reportedly lets out an angry scream before his ship is obliterated. His key relationships are primarily professional, defined by his loyalty to his superior Meldarz and his role as a commander of his own fleet and its escort.
Deda's development throughout the conflict is marked by his transformation from a quiet, stoic officer into a more emotional and reckless combatant, surprised by his own reactions to the heat of battle. Regarding notable abilities, Deda is a skilled military strategist capable of commanding a large assault battleship and its fleet. He demonstrates the ability to utilize the environment to his advantage, such as attempting to use the captured planet Iscandar as a shield against enemy fire. He also possesses the species-specific ability to shift into a battle mode, visually indicated by the transformation of his eyes.
