Description
Nagisa Momoe, also known by her alias Bebe, is a magical girl who appears in Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion. She is first introduced in the film as a mysterious, cheerful figure who closely accompanies Mami Tomoe, later revealed to be the human form of the witch Charlotte, who originally appeared in the first television series. Before becoming a witch, Nagisa was an ordinary girl who made a contract with Kyubey, wishing for her mother to find the best cheesecake. This wish, centered on her love for cheese and sweets, remains a defining trait of her character.

In terms of personality, Nagisa is typically childish and serves as lighthearted comic relief within the group. She speaks in an eloquent and formal manner, which contrasts with her scattered, ditzy, and airheaded behavior. As Bebe, she becomes even more exuberant, jumping around and panicking dramatically at the mere thought of turning into cheese. Despite her silly exterior, Nagisa is shown to be more perceptive than she initially appears, occasionally offering insightful observations. She is kind-hearted and deeply loyal, especially toward those she considers friends.

Nagisa’s primary motivation in Rebellion is tied to her role as an emissary of the Law of Cycles, alongside Sayaka Miki. She is sent to assist in the investigation of the false Mitakihara world created by Homura Akemi. Her cheerful demeanor helps ease tensions, and she plays a quiet but important part in uncovering the truth of the altered reality. Her bond with Mami Tomoe is particularly significant, resembling a mother-daughter relationship. Nagisa admires Mami and spends much of the film as her companion, fighting by her side and providing emotional support. After the world is reshaped, Nagisa loses her memories as a Law of Cycles emissary and begins living as a normal human, though her connection to Mami endures.

Nagisa’s development revolves around her dual identity as both a former witch and a magical girl. Unlike most magical girls, she retains her consciousness and will when shifting between forms, a unique ability granted by her integration into the Law of Cycles. This allows her to harness the powers of the witch Charlotte without succumbing to despair. Her magical abilities are whimsical yet effective. She wields a trumpet that can produce powerful sound-based attacks, including bubbles strong enough to crack a witch’s labyrinth barrier. She can also summon her witch form’s familiars, Pyotr and Polina, to aid in combat. Her transformation phrase is Parmigiano Reggiano, a reference to her love of cheese. Her magical girl outfit is playful and confectionery-themed, featuring a cat-eared hat, suspenders, a jellyfish-like skirt, and a salmon-colored cape, all reflecting her connection to sweets and her witch form.

Overall, Nagisa Momoe is a complex character who blends childish innocence with perceptive wisdom, serving both as comic relief and a key ally in Rebellion’s deeper narrative. Her unique status as a magical girl who can freely access her witch powers makes her a distinctive and valuable member of the cast.
