Description
Johnny Rayflo, also known as the Progenitor of vampires, is a central figure with a history long predating the main events of the story. Before becoming a vampire, he was a knight named Addy, serving a royal family that included Princess Marie. In an effort to protect his kingdom from warring factions, he made a desperate pact with a demon named Belial. In exchange for the strength and immortality of a vampire, Johnny sacrificed his virtue, the people he was sworn to protect, and the person he loved most. The demon did not reveal the full cost of this power until after it was taken, and tragically, Johnny’s kingdom was destroyed and the royal family killed soon after, rendering his original motivations meaningless. This profound loss cemented a deep-seated fear of losing those he cares about, a fear that dictates many of his actions throughout the series.

In his present life, Johnny presents himself as a wealthy, hedonistic, and extravagant playboy. He is often seen with a cigarette and favors dark, open shirts, with his messy dark hair frequently tied back in a small ponytail. Despite an appearance that suggests he is in his early forties, he is in fact several centuries old. His personality is deliberately layered and deceptive. On the surface, he is laid-back, calm, and rarely shows concern even when others move against him. He is sociable, talkative, and has a bold, flirtatious demeanor, often using playful banter and teasing to keep situations from becoming too tense. Johnny can be seductive and charming towards those who catch his interest, yet he also displays childish, almost bratty behavior, often specifically to annoy Charles. He has a noticeable fondness for cute things, like panda bears. However, this frivolous exterior is largely an act. He very rarely speaks of himself, using his flirtatious and shallow conversations to remain cryptic and keep others at a distance. In reality, he carries a deep sense of guilt for his actions and the lives he has affected over his long existence. His most authentic self is revealed in moments of quiet care or self-sacrifice, as he holds a strong sense of responsibility and is utterly protective of those he loves, even as he hides things from them to ensure their safety.

Johnny’s primary motivation is a complex mix of guilt, love, and an intense desire to protect. His ancient pact with Belial created a deep-seated fear of loss, and he is driven to prevent that tragedy from repeating, particularly with Charles. He feels immense guilt for turning Charles into a vampire, believing he has doomed him to the same kind of tormented existence he himself endures. This sense of responsibility often manifests as a self-sacrificing heroism, as Johnny does not hesitate to put himself in mortal danger to guarantee the safety of others, showing little to no regard for his own survival. Throughout the story, his role is that of a powerful, unconventional master and a hidden guardian. He acts as the sole source of blood for Charles, who refuses to feed on humans, and provides the backdrop of a luxurious, chaotic home life against which the Vatican's missions unfold. His past continually resurfaces to challenge him, forcing him to confront the consequences of his ancient deal, whether in the form of the demon Belial, the incubus Barry who hunts him in a twisted game, or the reappearance of those he once knew.

The most significant relationship in Johnny’s life is with his vassal, Charles Chrishunds, whom he affectionately calls "Cherry." Their bond is extraordinarily complex, defined by roles of master and servant, father and son, and lover. Johnny first met Charles as a starving, dying child at the ruins of an abandoned church. He cared for the boy for a month, giving him his iconic haircut and the name "Chris," before leaving him with a local church for his own safety. They reunited years later when an adult Charles was dying, and upon Charles’s request, Johnny turned him into a vampire. As the master, Johnny delights in seducing and teasing his stoic servant, but this playful torment is underpinned by genuine, profound love and unwavering loyalty. Charles is the person Johnny has chosen to keep by his side despite all costs, and their relationship is the heart of the narrative.

Other key relationships are rooted in his past. Princess Marie, whom he once served as a knight, represents his original purpose and the love he lost. Belial, the demon who transformed him, continues to be a lingering, malevolent presence. The incubus Barry, created in the image of the demon, stalks Johnny as part of a long-running game. Johnny also has a connection to Rayfell, a female vampire and succubus who is his supposed twin. She was created from one of his ribs by Belial in an attempt to generate a powerful line of vampires, a plan that failed because both Johnny and Rayfell shared the demon’s own inclination towards the same sex.

Johnny’s character development is subtle but significant. While he begins as an enigmatic and seemingly shallow figure, the story slowly peels back his layers to reveal the tragic knight and guilt-ridden protector beneath. His central conflict is learning to live with the costs of his power. He made a deal that stripped him of everything, yet he eventually vows to never regret his decision to keep Charles by his side, signifying a refusal to let his ancient trauma dictate his future happiness. Despite the demon Belial waiting for the chance to take everything away again, Johnny chooses to move forward without regret.

As a pure-blood vampire who has lived for centuries, Johnny possesses a formidable array of supernatural abilities. He has superhuman agility, strength, and resistance, able to survive wounds that would be instantly fatal to any human. His most notable power is an extremely rapid regeneration, allowing him to heal from dismemberment, impalement, and severe trauma, though more grievous injuries take more time and energy to recover from. He can desmaterialize his body into a swarm of bats, which he uses as a method of transportation or evasion. Using his own blood, he is able to create servants, such as his maids, who are loyal only to him and will obey his commands in daily tasks or in combat. Reflecting his centuries-old origins as a knight, Johnny is also a highly skilled swordsman.
