TV Special
Description
Luna Carson is a supporting character who appears in the television special Pokémon: Mewtwo Returns. She lives at a rest stop lodge in Purity Canyon, where she assists tourists and conducts research on Pokémon habitats around Mount Quena. She also works part‑time for a local bus company. Luna is the younger sister of Luka Carson.

Luna’s background is rooted in her deep connection to the natural environment of the Purity Canyon region. She is a passionate Pokémon researcher and has a thorough understanding of the local geography and wildlife. Her personality is warm and hospitable; she readily offers shelter and guidance to travelers who lose their way. At the same time, she is cautious and protective of the area’s delicate ecosystem, especially the pure spring water that flows from Mount Quena. She fears that if the water’s healing properties become widely known, the increased human activity could destroy it.

Her motivations center on preserving the natural balance of the region and helping those who pass through. She is driven by a genuine curiosity about Pokémon and their habitats, which she studies in her spare time. In the story, she encounters Ash Ketchum, Misty, and Brock after they miss the monthly bus. She invites them to stay at her lodge, offers them a drink of spring water, and suggests they travel down Purity River. When Team Rocket captures Pikachu, Luna insists on guiding the group across the treacherous terrain toward Mount Quena, demonstrating her resourcefulness and determination. She later uses her knowledge of the area to help the group build a canoe from a fallen log, allowing them to reach the island where Pikachu has been taken.

Key relationships include the researchers Cullen Calix and Domino. Cullen Calix, a renowned scientist, recognizes Luna as an important researcher when he arrives to study the pure water. Luna is initially wary of his intentions, fearing the consequences of exposing the water’s secrets. As the story progresses, she and Cullen develop a mutual respect and romantic interest. At the end of the special, after Mewtwo erases the memories of the conflict, Cullen realizes that his feelings for Luna matter more than his research, and he chooses to settle down with her rather than pursue his ambitions. This relationship marks a significant personal development for Luna, as she finds a partner who shares her appreciation for the region.

Luna does not possess extraordinary abilities, but she has keen observational skills, a strong knowledge of local wildlife and plants, and practical survival expertise. She is adept at navigating the canyons and mountains of Purity Canyon, and she uses her understanding of Pokémon behavior to assist others. Her notable abilities include identifying the pure water’s qualities and crafting a makeshift canoe using tree trunks and the help of Ash’s Bulbasaur and Chikorita. Through her actions, Luna proves to be a reliable and insightful ally, someone who values both nature and community.
