TV-Series
Description
Hikaru Ichinomiya is introduced during the winter, when he is accidentally bumped into by Amu and her younger sister, leading Amu to offer him a taiyaki as an apology. He is a young boy who initially appears aloof and disconnected from the world around him, unable to express emotions such as laughter or smiling. His demeanor is described as far beyond stoic and impassive, making other characters believe his primary goal is to learn how to experience genuine feelings.

Hikaru's background reveals that his parents died in a car accident, a traumatic event that contributed to his emotional numbness and inability to connect with others. Seeking to fill this void, he came to view emotions as something that could be replaced with material substitutes. As the head of the Easter corporation, known as Gozen, he sought the Embryo not for world domination but because he considered it a precious jewel that could serve as a replacement for his missing feelings. This quest defines his initial motivations, as he pursues the Embryo to fill the emotional emptiness left by his loss.

His role in the story changes significantly when he enrolls at Seiyo Academy. Under the guidance of Tsukasa, the school's director, Hikaru is appointed as a Guardian Apprentice, a position meant to prepare him to eventually succeed the current members of the Guardians. This puts him in direct contact with Amu Hinamori and Rikka Hiiragi, who take it upon themselves to teach him how to smile and experience happiness. His interactions with them form the core of his development, as their persistent kindness and normal childhood experiences gradually break down his defensive walls.

The process of Hikaru learning to feel is shown through small, significant events. In one instance, he is tasked with caring for a rabbit, a job he initially finds annoying and difficult, especially when the animal bites him and later falls ill. Despite his frustrations, he stays by the rabbit's side through the night, stroking its back to comfort it. When the rabbit recovers and is happy and healthy, Hikaru feels a warm sensation inside for the first time, a pivotal moment in his emotional awakening. His development continues in small steps, such as when he experiences genuine, uncontrollable laughter after becoming dizzy on an amusement park ride, an event that amuses his friends and further levels his emotional defenses. By the end of the series, his growth is solidified when his own Guardian Character egg is born, signifying the emergence of his true, authentic self and his readiness to become a full-fledged member of the Guardians, ultimately taking on the role of King's Chair.

Regarding notable abilities, Hikaru possesses the inherent talent to see Guardian Characters, a skill not everyone has. He is also shown to be quick-thinking and agile, as demonstrated when he stops Rikka from trampling a flower garden and simultaneously catches an escaped rabbit. His strategic mind, likely honed from his time leading Easter, also contributes to his effectiveness as a Guardian. However, he does not demonstrate any unique magical abilities or power-ups like a Character Transformation, as his own Guardian Character only appears very late in the narrative.
