Description
Lyle Dylandy, who uses the codename Lockon Stratos, is a Gundam Meister and a main character in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer. He is the younger identical twin brother of Neil Dylandy, the original Lockon Stratos who was killed in battle during the first season. Prior to joining Celestial Being, Lyle was a member of the anti-Federation resistance group Katharon, where he worked as an intelligence gatherer. After Neil’s death, Setsuna F. Seiei recruited Lyle to take his brother’s place as a Gundam Meister, and he accepted the role and the codename Lockon Stratos to honor Neil’s memory.
Lyle’s personality is more reserved and less overtly cheerful than his brother’s, though he is easygoing and friendly toward others. He carries the weight of replacing his brother and initially struggles to live up to the name Lockon Stratos, often being compared unfavorably to Neil. However, he does not brood over the past or hold grudges, and he is capable of letting go of negative experiences to focus on the present and future. His motivations are rooted in a desire to make a difference in the world and a strong sense of justice, but unlike Neil, he is not driven by revenge. He gradually grows into the role of Lockon Stratos and proves himself as a capable and adaptable pilot.
During the second season, Lyle pilots the GN-006 Cherudim Gundam, the successor to the Dynames, and develops his own combat style that favors multiple guns and ranged support rather than pure sniping. His combat sense is exceptionally high, and his long-range shooting skills, inherited from his brother, are particularly outstanding. In the movie Awakening of the Trailblazer, he pilots the GN-010 Gundam Zabanya, a heavy-weapons support unit, and participates in humanity’s first contact with the ELS and the final battle to protect Earth.
Key relationships shape Lyle’s character arc. His bond with his twin brother Neil is central; he admired Neil but also resented being compared to him, and taking the name Lockon Stratos is both an honor and a burden that he eventually makes his own. He falls in love with Anew Returner, a crew member of the Ptolemaios II, but she is revealed to be an Innovade spy for Ribbons Almark. When Anew is exposed, she attempts to kill him, and Lyle is forced to kill her in self-defense, an event that deeply traumatizes him. This loss reinforces his commitment to Celestial Being’s mission and leaves lasting emotional scars. He also forms working relationships with the other Gundam Meisters, especially Setsuna, and proves himself as a reliable teammate.
Throughout the series and into the movie, Lyle’s development shows his transformation from a man living in his brother’s shadow to a confident pilot who makes the Lockon Stratos identity his own. He learns to adapt, to move forward from tragedy, and to use his exceptional marksmanship and tactical sense to protect Earth from new threats.
