OVA
Description
Amata Sora is the male protagonist of the anime series in which he appears. He is a boy with distinctive orange hair and violet eyes, initially working as a film projectionist in a small movie theater. He holds a deep fondness for a particular film, which he requests to be shown repeatedly, a detail that connects to his personal longings and his first encounter with a significant person in his life.

In terms of personality, Amata is initially characterized as somewhat timid, insecure, and easily flustered. This stems from a difficult childhood where he was ostracized by his peers due to his uncontrollable special power. Because of this trauma, he develops a strong desire to be normal and actively suppresses his own abilities. Despite his shy and reserved nature, he possesses a strong inner core and is not weak-willed; when a situation demands action, particularly to protect someone he cares about, he can become remarkably determined and brave. He outright rejects the concept of a predetermined destiny and is willing to defy established fate to fight for what he believes in.

Amata's core motivation throughout the story is his desire to protect others, which becomes focused on a girl he falls in love with at first sight. His personal journey involves overcoming his painful past, learning to accept his power, and unraveling the mysteries of his own identity. He is driven by a need to understand why his mother abandoned him as a child and to confront the strange connection he feels toward a wild boy named Kagura.

His role in the story is that of a hero who is thrust into a conflict much larger than himself. He is a student at an academy that trains individuals with special powers to pilot giant mechanical weapons called Vectors. He becomes the primary pilot of one such Vector, and through his actions, he unlocks the ability for male and female pilots to combine their machines into the superpowered robotic warrior, Aquarion, a feat that was previously impossible. He is central to the battle against mysterious invaders and the unfolding of a 12,000-year-old conspiracy.

Amata has several key relationships that define his character arc. His most significant relationship is with the female lead, for whom he develops an immediate and powerful affection. This connection is complicated by the presence of Kagura, a rival who shares a deep, mysterious link to Amata. It is eventually revealed that Amata and Kagura were originally a single person, split into two halves by a powerful antagonist; Amata represents the gentle and restrained half, while Kagura embodies the wild and passionate part of their original soul. He also forms a strong friendship with a boisterous male classmate, often participating in his comedic schemes. His mother, Alicia, is a crucial figure in his past, and the truth about her abandonment and her identity is a major source of personal pain and later, understanding.

Amata undergoes significant development, transforming from a fearful boy who hides his true nature into a confident young man who embraces his identity and powers. He learns to control his ability, moving beyond simple, uncontrolled levitation to achieve true, directed flight. He also comes to terms with the painful truth about his parents and his fractured soul, ultimately choosing to accept all parts of himself and his history to move forward. His final act of self-acceptance and love allows him to achieve a new, ultimate form of combination, ending the central conflict.

Amata's most notable ability is his Element power, which is described as Anti-Gravity or the power to fly through the air. This ability manifests as glowing orange light from his feet and the appearance of ethereal golden wings around his ankles. When he becomes excited, nervous, or scared, the power activates involuntarily, causing him to float upwards. To prevent this, he wears specially weighted boots. He can channel this ability through the giant robot he pilots, granting the entire machine the power of flight, which is a critical asset in battle. After undergoing a special intense training regimen, he gains complete control over his power, allowing him to fly freely in any direction at high speed and even develop a defensive technique that can nullify the powers of his counterpart, Kagura. His inherent combat skills are not exceptional, but his unique flight ability makes him an irreplaceable pilot.
