Description
Alielle Relrye is a young woman from the kingdom of Roshtaria in the world of El-Hazard. She is notably the constant companion and lover of Princess Fatora Venus, a relationship that defines much of her public behavior and actions. Her background includes being the older sister of another resident named Parnoose, and she is originally from Roshtaria itself, with a twin brother named Barnas Lelelyle. Physically, she has blue-purple hair and pink eyes.
Alielle’s personality is markedly dualistic, changing drastically based on whether Princess Fatora is present. When she is away from the princess, she emerges as a capable, loyal, and intelligent individual who acts as a dependable friend and guide to others. In this state, she is resourceful and level-headed, though she still retains a notably high libido and a strong, unfiltered interest in other women. However, when in the presence of Princess Fatora, her personality shifts completely. She becomes a sycophantic and eager accomplice, known as a "toady," who enthusiastically aids the princess in her various schemes and plots. These schemes frequently involve the sexual harassment or assault of other female characters, with Alielle participating willingly and without reservation. This submissive and agreeable nature in Fatora's company is one of her most consistent traits.
Alielle is introduced into the main narrative when she returns to the royal palace from a visit to her parents. She sneaks into what she believes is Princess Fatora’s bedroom, only to find Makoto Mizuhara, an Earthling boy magically disguised as the princess. Upon learning the truth about Fatora’s disappearance and the peril she is in, Alielle drops her playful demeanor out of genuine concern. She then takes on the crucial role of a guide for the protagonists, Makoto and his teacher Mr. Fujisawa, leading them on a journey to see the three priestesses of Mount Muldoon. Her motivation in this quest is primarily worry for the real Fatora’s safety and a desire to help rescue her. In other iterations, her role includes being ordered by a scientist, Dr. Schtalubaugh, to observe and report on Makoto’s supernatural powers, adding a layer of secret agent to her duties as a guide.
Her key relationships are central to her character. Her relationship with Princess Fatora is the most significant; she is depicted as Fatora's lover and loyal concubine, a dynamic that is open and not hidden within the narrative. She also has a notable and intense infatuation with red hair, which makes it impossible for her to resist molesting the powerful fire priestess Shayla-Shayla whenever the opportunity arises. In some versions of the story, particularly when Fatora is absent, her romantic interests shift towards other female characters, including Nanami Jinnai, with whom an implied relationship develops. Beyond her romantic and sexual interests, she is a capable teacher and sociologist of sorts, even instructing Mr. Fujisawa about the world of El-Hazard.
The character undergoes development primarily across different series and iterations rather than within a single, continuous arc. In the original OVA, her personality is heavily dominated by the influence of Fatora, leading to a more mischievous and perpetually scheming persona. In later series, such as El-Hazard: The Wanderers, with Fatora largely absent from the plot, Alielle’s lesbian traits and her role as a sexual aggressor are significantly toned down, and she is presented more as a capable and loyal, if still sexually forward, friend to the Earthling characters. This shift has led to fan interpretations debating whether her negative traits are a result of Fatora's corrupting influence or an inherent part of her character that is simply less pronounced in different circumstances.
Regarding her notable abilities, while Alielle is not a frontline combatant and never actively participates in any fighting throughout the series, she possesses other practical skills. She demonstrates the ability to pilot Rostarian flying ships. She also serves as an effective guide and observer, using her knowledge of the land and her sociological insight to help the protagonists navigate the world of El-Hazard and understand its inhabitants. An opening sequence for the first OVA briefly shows her wielding a curved sword, but this imagery does not reflect her actual role in the story, as she never uses it in any combat scenario.
