Description
Chibiusa is the civilian identity of the Sailor Guardian known as Sailor Chibi Moon. During the Sailor Moon S season, she is a young girl who has traveled from the 30th century to the 20th century with the stated goal of continuing her training as a Sailor Guardian. Her true identity is Princess Usagi Small Lady Serenity, the crown princess of Crystal Tokyo and the only daughter of Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion, who are the future selves of Usagi Tsukino and Mamoru Chiba. Although she has chronologically lived for over 900 years, she possesses the appearance and personality of a young child, which is a result of her powers having not yet fully awakened.
Physically, Chibiusa is small for her apparent age, with distinctive bright pink hair styled into two cone-shaped odango that resemble rabbit ears, from which long pigtails fall. Her eyes are red. By the time of the S season, she has grown slightly older and her hair is a bit longer than when she first appeared. Her typical outfit in this period is a school uniform consisting of a white sailor shirt with blue trim, a blue front bow, a blue pleated skirt, and a pink brooch pinned to her bow which allows her to transform.
In terms of personality, Chibiusa is energetic, outgoing, and often precocious. She has a tendency to be a little spoiled and can be demanding when she wants something, but these traits are tempered by a kind heart. She is revealed to be somewhat clumsy and lazy at times, traits she shares with her younger mother, Usagi. Her relationship with Usagi is complex; the two bicker constantly and behave more like sisters than mother and daughter, with Chibiusa often teasing Usagi about her clumsiness or playfully claiming Mamoru as her own boyfriend to annoy her. However, beneath this rivalry runs a deep current of love and admiration, and Chibiusa secretly looks up to her future mother.
The Sailor Moon S season places significant emphasis on Chibiusa's developing independence and her capacity for forging powerful emotional bonds. Her most important relationship in this story arc is with a lonely girl named Hotaru Tomoe. Chibiusa becomes determined friends with Hotaru, giving her the warmth and trust she has never experienced from others. This friendship is tested when it is revealed that Hotaru is the host for the evil entity Mistress 9 and is also the reincarnation of Sailor Saturn, the Guardian of Destruction. Chibiusa's loyalty does not waver; she refuses to abandon Hotaru, and their bond ultimately plays a key role in Hotaru breaking free from evil influence.
As a Sailor Guardian in training, Chibiusa transforms into Sailor Chibi Moon using the Prism Heart Compact and her transformation phrase, Moon Prism Power, Make Up. In this form, her sailor uniform is primarily pink with red accents, and she wears a red tiara. Her primary attack is Pink Sugar Heart Attack, which she performs using the Pink Moon Rod. While this attack is often portrayed as being not particularly powerful or effective against stronger enemies, she continues to use it courageously. Her magical guardian device is Luna-P, a pink, spherical, rabbit-themed object that can transform into various useful items, such as an umbrella, a hypnosis device, or a communication tool.
Throughout the S season, Chibiusa matures from the more troubled and insecure child seen in her debut into a more confident, though still young, hero. She actively participates in battles alongside the other Sailor Guardians and proves her bravery, often stepping forward to protect Hotaru. At one critical point, she joins hands with Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, channeling her power to help Sailor Moon obtain the Holy Grail and transform into Super Sailor Moon, showcasing her growing importance to the team's success.
