Description
Kaolinite, also known as Kaorinite, is a primary antagonist introduced during the Sailor Moon S storyline as a prominent member of the Death Busters organization. She serves directly under Professor Souichi Tomoe, acting as his trusted secretary, the caretaker of the Tomoe household, and the field commander responsible for overseeing the mission to find the talismans. Her physical appearance is notable for her striking red hair and her choice of attire, which typically consists of a sleeveless red lab coat. She is a powerful sorceress who is deeply devoted to the professor, harboring strong, unrequited romantic feelings for him that heavily influence her actions and motivations throughout the series.

In terms of personality, Kaolinite is depicted as highly intelligent, confident, and utterly ruthless in her dedication to the Death Busters' cause. She carries herself with a sense of superiority and authority, which is fitting for her role as the second-in-command. Her driving motivation is twofold: she seeks to successfully revive the entity known as the Messiah of Silence, which aligns with the goals of her masters, and she desperately craves the recognition and affection of Professor Tomoe. This desire for his approval is so powerful that it borders on obsession, and she views anyone who diverts his attention, particularly his daughter Hotaru, as a rival to be resented and eliminated. Her jealousy towards Hotaru is a key character flaw, as she openly dislikes the child for monopolizing the professor's care and concern.

Within the story, Kaolinite serves as the first major enemy faced by the Sailor Guardians in the S season. Her primary role is to harvest Pure Heart Crystals from human victims, specifically searching for the three special crystals that contain the legendary talismans. She accomplishes this by taking Daimon Eggs provided by Professor Tomoe and fusing them into everyday objects that belong to or are cherished by potential victims. When a victim touches the cursed object, a Daimon is born and proceeds to painfully extract the person's Pure Heart Crystal, with Kaolinite often observing the process. Throughout her campaign, she unknowingly extracts the crystals of several Sailor Guardians, including Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and even Sailor Moon herself, which leads her to discover the civilian identity of her main enemy, Usagi Tsukino. This discovery culminates in a final confrontation at Tokyo Tower, where a combined attack from the Sailor Guardians and Sailor Uranus's World Shaking technique reflects her own power back at her, encasing her in glass and sending her plummeting to her apparent death.

However, Kaolinite's story does not end there, as she undergoes a significant development by being the only Death Busters enemy to be resurrected from the dead. Professor Tomoe revives her, and she returns in a second incarnation under the alias Kaori. In this new life, her memories of being a Death Buster are initially suppressed, and she takes on the role of a seemingly normal caretaker and maid for the Tomoe household, though her intense dislike for Hotaru and her unyielding devotion to the Professor remain intact. She eventually regains her powers and memories, becoming desperate to reclaim her position and the professor's approval, especially as she is replaced in the field by the Witches 5. Her final act of service is to kidnap Chibiusa, the young Sailor Chibi Moon, so that her Pure Heart Crystal can be used to fully awaken Mistress 9. Having served her purpose, Kaolinite is callously struck down by Mistress 9, who no longer has any use for her, marking her permanent end.

Kaolinite possesses a variety of notable supernatural abilities that make her a formidable opponent. She is a powerful sorceress capable of teleportation, levitation, and firing potent energy blasts at her enemies. One of her most distinctive combat techniques is the ability to extend and manipulate her long red hair, which she uses to ensnare, choke, or restrain her foes. After absorbing the power from her final Daimon, Senishenta, she gains the ability to conjure a crystal sword and project a beam of crystallizing energy that can freeze anything it strikes into solid glass, a power that was ultimately turned against her during her first death.

Her key relationships are primarily defined by her loyalty to the Death Busters and her personal obsessions. Her bond with Professor Tomoe is the most significant, marked by her deep-seated love and her constant efforts to prove her worth to him. In contrast, her relationship with his daughter, Hotaru Tomoe, is one of bitter jealousy and resentment, as she sees the girl as an obstacle to her happiness. This places her in direct competition with the other members of the Death Busters, specifically the Witches 5, who are Tomoe's other subordinates. Kaolinite holds a leadership position over them, but they resent her for her privileged status and her closeness to the professor. In the original manga, her character differs slightly, where she is known as the Magus Kaolinite and acts as the principal of Mugen Academy, commanding the Witches 5 directly and communicating with the entity Pharaoh 90. In this version, she is also a Daimon host, having been struck by lightning during an experiment, and she ultimately transforms into a monstrous Daimon form before being destroyed by Super Sailor Moon.
