Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro is the princess and the sole remaining member of the ruling light line of the Grand Duchy of Cagliostro, a small European country. As a young woman, she is depicted with short auburn hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. Her upbringing has left her sheltered from the wider world, contributing to a gentle, kind, and sweet nature. Despite this naivete, she possesses a surprising inner strength and courage when faced with threats to herself or those she cares about.
Her primary motivation throughout the story is to escape a forced marriage to Count Cagliostro, the regent who rules in her place and intends to use the marriage to gain full control of the family’s ancient treasure. The treasure can only be accessed with two signet rings, one belonging to the Count and the other to Clarisse. She is also motivated by a desire to protect the secret of her family’s legacy and to reclaim her freedom.
