Description
Master Asia, whose real name is Shuji Kurosu, is a central character in the anime Mobile Fighter G Gundam. He is a native of Neo Japan, born on February 24 in the year FC 10. He began his career as a Gundam Fighter by participating in the 7th Gundam Fight, piloting the Yamato Gundam. During this period, he formed a friendship and rivalry with Wolf Heinrich of Neo Germany. Master Asia went on to become the champion of the 12th Gundam Fight, representing Neo Hong Kong while piloting the Kowloon Gundam, and he held the title of King of Hearts within the original Shuffle Alliance alongside Tris Sergeyrev, Nassius Kircher, Max Burns, and Alan Lee. His extraordinary combat prowess earned him the epithet Undefeated of the East.
Master Asia created his own martial arts style called Tohoufuhai, which emphasizes a spiritual connection with nature and allows him to channel the Earth's power into his techniques. His skill is so refined that he can destroy mobile suits with a simple piece of cloth. He later pilots the Master Gundam, a mobile suit built for speed and precision that he controls with such synchronicity that he does not require the standard body-glove interface.
For ten years, Master Asia trained Domon Kasshu, the protagonist, in martial arts and the Mobile Trace System used in the Gundam Fight. This master-student relationship forms the emotional core of his story. After winning the 12th Gundam Fight, Master Asia became disillusioned and grew increasingly concerned that humanity was destroying the Earth. He discovered the Devil Gundam and came to believe that the ancient mobile suit held the key to restoring ecological balance by purging humanity. This conviction led him to ally with Wong Yunfat, the ruler of Neo Hong Kong, and to become infected with Devil Gundam Cells, which transformed his Kowloon Gundam into the Master Gundam. He then turned against his former allies and students, becoming a major antagonist during the 13th Gundam Fight.
Despite his opposition, Master Asia's motivations are rooted in a strong, albeit twisted, sense of justice and a desire to protect the planet. He manipulates events to draw Domon into his ambitions, repeatedly challenging him to push his growth. When Wong Yunfat attempts underhanded tactics, Master Asia dismisses them with laughter and instead chooses to teach Domon his ultimate technique, Sekiha Tenkyoken, believing Domon needs it to face greater threats. In the final confrontation, Master Asia is defeated by Domon and, in his dying moments, acknowledges Domon as the true King of Hearts and passes on his wisdom. He ultimately realizes the error of his belief that humanity and nature could not coexist.
Key relationships include his deep bond with Domon, his former Shuffle Alliance colleagues, and his alliance with Wong Yunfat. His development arcs from a revered mentor to a desperate antagonist and finally to a figure who finds redemption through his student. Master Asia's notable abilities extend beyond his martial arts to include the Darkness Finger attack, the Sekiha Tenkyoken, and the ability to sense and manipulate the environment through his spiritual training. He is widely considered one of the most powerful fighters in the Future Century.
