TV-Series
Description
Amy Mizuno, also known as Sailor Mercury, is a highly intelligent middle school student with short blue hair and blue eyes, sometimes depicted wearing reading glasses. She is renowned for achieving top scores on national exams and is said to have an IQ of 300. The daughter of a busy doctor mother and a painter father, her parents are divorced, and she lives with her mother in a condominium. Aspiring to become a doctor like her mother, she dedicates herself to her studies. Initially shy and reserved, she was perceived as cold and snobbish by peers, leading to a lonely social life before befriending Usagi Tsukino and the other Sailor Guardians. Her personality is kind, gentle, loyal, and slightly insecure, though she grows more confident over time. She enjoys reading, playing chess, and swimming, and has a secret fondness for romance novels.
Ami is the reincarnation of Sailor Mercury, the Guardian of Wisdom and Water from the ancient Moon Kingdom, and the second Sailor Guardian recruited by Luna. Using a transformation pen and phrases like Mercury Power, Make Up, she assumes her Sailor Guardian form, which features a blue and white uniform, a tiara with a blue gem, and boots. She wields a visor and a miniature supercomputer for data analysis and strategy. Her water and ice-based attacks include Shabon Spray, which creates a concealing mist; Shabon Spray Freezing; Shine Aqua Illusion; and later, more powerful techniques such as Mercury Aqua Rhapsody and Mercury Aqua Mirage. She achieves enhanced forms including Super Sailor Mercury, marked by a heart-shaped gem and star choker, Eternal Sailor Mercury with a more elaborate design, and a Princess Mercury form in an elegant blue gown.
Within the Sailor Guardians, Ami serves as the strategist and analyst, using her intellect to assess enemies and devise battle plans. She acts as the voice of reason, balancing the team's more impulsive members. Her loyalty is tested when she is offered a chance to study abroad in Germany; she initially accepts to pursue her medical dreams but ultimately chooses to remain in Japan with her friends. She also defies her mother’s attempt to transfer her to another school, asserting that her duties as a Guardian matter more than studying alone. In the Sailor Moon S season, she uses her compassionate logic to convince Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune to spare the life of Hotaru Tomoe. In Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie and its accompanying short Ami’s First Love, she gains the ability to access her Super form with Pegasus’s help and faces a mysterious academic rival she nicknames Mercurius. Through her friendships and battles, Ami develops from a lonely, insecure girl into a confident young woman who values her bonds above all else.
