TV-Series
Description
Masuo Fuguta is the husband of Sazae Fuguta and the father of their young son, Tarao. He works as a salaryman in the sales department of a trading company called Kaizan Shoji. In the anime, he is 28 years old, while in the original manga he is 32. He was born in Osaka, and his gentle, honest, and timid personality defines much of his role in the household. Because he is good-natured and somewhat weak-willed, he often ends up in situations where he is taken advantage of or plays a losing role. Despite this, his integrity and kindness have earned him the complete trust of Sazae's extended family, and he lives contentedly surrounded by them.

Masuo's motivations are rooted in maintaining harmony within the family and fulfilling his responsibilities as a husband, father, and employee. He is deeply devoted to Sazae and genuinely believes she is very beautiful, a sentiment he expresses openly. He also shares a warm, if occasionally exasperated, relationship with his in-laws, including his father-in-law Namihei Isono, mother-in-law Fune Isono, and his lively younger siblings-in-law Katsuo and Wakame. His bond with his son Tarao is affectionate, and he takes part in everyday family life with patience and good humor.

While his core nature is gentle and earnest, Masuo occasionally displays moments of cunning or says things that could be considered black-hearted, adding a subtle layer of complexity to his character. Over the course of the series, he remains a stable and consistent presence, with his development shown more through his deepening integration into the Isono family rather than dramatic personal change. He is also known for a handful of notable quirks and abilities. He has a surprising degree of physical flexibility, once performing a somersault while flipping a pancake, and he enjoys hobbies such as golf, though he is not particularly skilled at it, as well as mahjong and drinking. He also plays the violin, but his playing is notably poor and often drives other family members away. In contrast, he is an accomplished gardener and even surpasses Sazae in sewing and mending. On the other hand, he is a very weak swimmer and is afraid of mice, traits that occasionally lead to comedic situations. At work, he is frequently seen with his colleague Anago, and his daily commute and office life are recurring elements of the series.
