OVA
Description
Captain Garimoth is the primary antagonist of the 1987 anime OVA Dangaioh, serving as the ruthless leader of a powerful faction of space pirates known as the Bunker or Banker clan. His overarching goal is to achieve galaxy-wide domination, a bloody tyranny he pursues with cold ambition. To this end, he commissions the scientist Dr. Tarsan to create the ultimate psychic super robot, Dangaioh, intending to use it as an unstoppable weapon to crush all opposition and allow Garimoth to rule the universe.

In terms of personality, Garimoth is depicted as a tyrannical and calculating villain who values power and control above all else. He is not a brute force antagonist but rather a manipulator who employs trickery to achieve his aims. One of his primary tactics involves exploiting the forgotten pasts of his enemies, specifically the four young pilots of the Dangaioh, as he understands that their erased memories represent a critical weakness he can use against them. This psychological warfare demonstrates his cunning nature, preferring to destabilize his foes from within rather than relying solely on direct confrontation.

Garimoth's most significant and complex relationship is with his daughter, Pai Thunder, one of the four Dangaioh pilots. She was originally named Darius or Barius, and he personally gave her to Dr. Tarsan to be experimented upon in order to create the ultimate weapon. Throughout the story, Pai suffers from amnesia and does not initially remember her father. When her memories eventually return, she is forced to confront her heritage. Garimoth attempts to use this familial bond to control her, putting her loyalty to the test and trying to turn her against her teammates. However, this plan ultimately backfires, as Pai renounces him and his evil empire, solidifying her commitment to the Dangaioh team and becoming one of his primary adversaries.

Garimoth's role in the story is that of the instigating force behind the central conflict. He is the architect of the scheme that brought the four young psychics together, albeit for malevolent purposes. When Dr. Tarsan experiences a change of heart and frees the children from their brainwashing, fleeing with them and the Dangaioh robot, Garimoth is enraged by this betrayal. He then deploys his most feared and notorious henchman, the cyborg Gil Berg, to pursue and destroy the traitors and reclaim his stolen weapon. This act sets the main plot in motion, transforming Garimoth from a distant mastermind into a direct threat as he deploys his forces to eliminate the heroes. He is consistently presented as the evil space pirate captain whose bloody tyranny the team of psychic warriors must unite to stop.

Regarding character development, Garimoth is portrayed as a static figure of authority and evil. He does not undergo a personal redemption or a significant change in worldview. His primary development is in his shifting tactics as his initial plans fail, moving from a behind-the-scenes employer to a more directly involved adversary deploying assassins and attempting to manipulate family ties. As a villain, his personal abilities are not the primary focus; his power is demonstrated through his command of a vast pirate empire, his control over formidable subordinates like Gil Berg, and his ruthless psychological manipulation of the heroes' lost memories.

While Garimoth is a leader and a strategist, his notable abilities lie in his authority and resources rather than in any overt personal superpowers. He leads the Bunker space pirates, commanding a military force capable of interstellar conquest. His true talent is for manipulation and planning, commissioning the construction of a super robot, exploiting psychological vulnerabilities, and issuing commands that drive the entire narrative of the anime. He represents the classic archetype of an evil space conqueror whose ambition and cruelty force the protagonists to rise against him.
