Description
Jun Fudo is the central character of the Devilman Lady anime, a young woman whose life is irrevocably changed when she awakens to a terrifying power within herself. In her everyday life, Jun is a successful and strikingly beautiful supermodel living in Tokyo, standing slightly taller than average with long, straight dark hair and brown eyes. Despite her professional success and the admiration she receives from many people, she is portrayed as a deeply shy, sensitive, and introverted individual. She is prone to brooding and struggles with a sense of emptiness, often feeling disconnected from the world around her. Though she tends to avoid most social interactions, she can show a friendly and warm side when spending time with colleagues or people she trusts.
Jun’s life takes a dramatic turn when she is confronted by Lan Asuka, an agent of the secretive Human Alliance. Asuka deliberately forces Jun into a life-threatening encounter with a monstrous Devilbeast, and the intense stress causes Jun’s own powers to surface for the first time, transforming her into the powerful and fearsome Devilman Lady. Following this awakening, Asuka gives Jun an ultimatum: join the Human Alliance to hunt and kill Devilbeasts, or be hunted herself as a threat. With no real choice, Jun is forced into this new role, setting the stage for her internal and external struggles.
As Devilman Lady, Jun undergoes a dramatic physical change, growing significantly taller and more muscular, with her clothes tearing away during the transformation. Her appearance becomes bestial, gaining red facial markings, yellow eyes, fur-like hair on parts of her body, a long tail, and the ability to sprout wings from her back. Part of her hair also transforms into bat-like wings and antennae on her head. In this form, her personality shifts to become more aggressive, vicious, and temperamental, often violently tearing apart her enemies. While she retains her human heart and sense of right and wrong, she struggles with the violent and even lustful impulses that come with her Devilman nature, leading to significant self-loathing and mental deterioration. Her mental state can even influence her transformed size, with greater instability making her grow larger.
Key relationships heavily influence Jun’s journey. Her bond with her fellow model, Kazumi Takiura, is particularly important. Jun acts as an older sister and mentor to Kazumi, and the two grow very close, with Kazumi’s support providing some solace amidst Jun’s turmoil. Her relationship with Lan Asuka is deeply complex. Asuka is controlling and manipulative, forcing Jun into service while also being one of the few people who can calm her Devilman form. Despite Asuka’s cruelty, Jun develops conflicted feelings for her, eventually realizing that her self-loathing prevents her from fully accepting Asuka’s twisted affection. Another significant figure from her past is Aoi Kurosaki, a childhood rival whose own transformation into a Devilbeast forces Jun into a painful confrontation.
Throughout the series, Jun develops from a timid and reluctant fighter into a more independent and determined individual, though she remains haunted by her actions and the monster she fears she is becoming. Her powers also evolve. In addition to her immense superhuman strength, speed, agility, and deadly claws, she learns to fly using the wings on her back. She also develops powerful finishing moves, including the Devil Cutter, which shapes her wings into blades, and the Devil Beam, a high-voltage blast. Most notably, she can transform into the colossal Giga Lady, a ten-meter-tall version of her Devilman form with proportionally increased strength, capable of unleashing the devastating Gigadein energy blast.
