Description
Batanen Fujioka is a werewolf and a senior officer working for the Police Company, a private law enforcement agency in a future world where humanity coexists with supernatural creatures. At thirty-five years old, he holds the position of the agency's top earner, a testament to his skill and experience as a bounty hunter. His appearance is notable for his ever-present sunglasses, which contribute to his stoic and professional demeanor.

In terms of personality, Batanen often presents himself as a reliable and protective figure, particularly towards his younger colleague, Natsuki Sasahara. He acts as a big brother to her, looking out for her safety and guiding her as she learns the ropes of the bounty hunting business. However, this brotherly exterior masks a deeper, more complicated set of feelings. He is secretly in love with Natsuki, but his romantic inclinations are hindered by a profound shyness and lack of self-confidence. This internal conflict leaves him paralyzed when it comes to expressing his true emotions, and he consistently hesitates to make any kind of advance. This hesitancy persists even on the rare occasions when Natsuki herself becomes flirtatious, leaving her completely unaware of the depth of his affection for him. Despite his professional competence, he is portrayed as somewhat of a lecher, yet this trait is consistently overridden by his insecurity in matters of the heart.

Within the narrative, Batanen serves as an experienced mentor and senior partner to the rookie Natsuki. He is the one who scouted her to join the Police Company, demonstrating his faith in her potential from the very beginning. His role is to provide a stabilizing, more experienced presence in contrast to the often chaotic and unpredictable nature of their work. His primary relationship is undoubtedly with Natsuki, defined by this dynamic of professional mentorship and unrequited personal love. He also works alongside his cousin, Tomy Fujioka, and another colleague, the fox demon Sakura Bokuseiinmonzeninari. Over the course of the story, Batanen's character develops subtly. While his romantic awkwardness remains a constant, his dedication and feelings for Natsuki ultimately lead to a significant resolution, as by the end of the original manga series, the two are married.

Batanen possesses several notable abilities that make him a formidable officer. As a werewolf, he has access to superhuman physical traits, including rapid regeneration and near-immortality. When injured, his body is capable of fully healing itself by the time of the next full moon. Beyond his supernatural heritage, he is a competent detective and an excellent marksman. This proficiency with firearms is reflected in his personal life, as his apartment contains a large collection of guns. In the line of duty, he is typically portrayed carrying an oversized sidearm that resembles a Magnum Research Desert Eagle, emphasizing his preference for overwhelming firepower.
