Description
Lt. Bob Bragan is a supporting antagonist in the anime film Golgo 13: The Professional. He is a lieutenant in the U.S. Special Forces who is recruited by the wealthy oil baron Leonard Dawson as part of a personal vendetta against the legendary assassin Golgo 13, after Dawson’s son is killed on Golgo’s contract. Bragan acts as the leader of a dedicated police task force assembled specifically to track down and eliminate Golgo, effectively coordinating Dawson’s private manhunt.
Bragan is described as a shady and corrupt law enforcement officer, willing to use his official position and military resources for a private revenge scheme in exchange for Dawson’s money and influence. His primary motivation appears to be professional obligation and financial gain rather than any personal grudge against Golgo. He is a capable tactician and field commander, orchestrating multiple ambushes on Golgo throughout the film. His most notable achievement is a successful ambush in San Francisco, where his team corners Golgo after a hit; although Golgo kills all of Bragan’s men, Bragan manages to shoot and wound Golgo before he himself is killed. This moment represents his defining role in the story: a determined but ultimately outmatched adversary who briefly succeeds where others failed.
Bragan’s key relationship is with Leonard Dawson, for whom he works as a hired enforcer. He also works alongside other hired assets such as the supersoldier Snake, but his contact with them is limited to mission coordination. Bragan has no significant personal development; his appearance is brief and his function within the plot is to serve as one of several obstacles Dawson places in Golgo’s path. He does not appear beyond his death scene. His abilities include standard military training, leadership of a tactical unit, and enough marksmanship skill to land a non-fatal shot on a target as evasive as Golgo 13. He is an American man with dark brown hair and black eyes, and his rank is indicated as lieutenant (or lieutenant colonel in some sources).
