Mr. Shiowatari is the father of Nagisa Shiowatari and a deceased minor character in the Urusei Yatsura OVA series. He was a close friend of Ryunosuke Fujinami's father, and together the two men operated seaside beach cafes. He is described as having a slender build, a small mustache, and a plain but not unpleasant appearance. He dressed in a style similar to Mr. Fujinami, but wore a bandanna on his head, round rimless glasses, and a shirt reading "I (heart) sea urchins." His first name is never revealed in the series. His primary motivation was to continue the strong friendship between the two families by arranging a marriage between his son Nagisa and Ryunosuke. This arrangement, made before his death, serves as the central conflict for the introduction of Nagisa, as Ryunosuke is repulsed by the idea of marrying a cross-dressing boy. Mr. Shiowatari raised Nagisa as a girl, which explains Nagisa's feminine appearance and behavior.
