Description
In the anime Tekkaman Blade, the character known as Commander Jamison is the leader of the Space Knights, the elite special defense force tasked with defending Earth from the alien Radam. His original Japanese name is Heinrich von Freeman. He serves as the primary tactical and strategic mind behind the resistance effort, operating from the Space Knights' headquarters.

Physically, Commander Jamison has a distinctive and memorable appearance. He is an albino with very pale skin, white-blond hair, and red eyes, which are especially sensitive to light. To protect his eyes, he is almost always seen wearing a pair of dark, uniquely shaped sunglasses. He is depicted as being quite thin and is thirty-five years old at the time of the series' events.

Commander Jamison is defined by his calm, collected, and deeply analytical personality. He possesses a sharp, strategic mind and is a master of meticulous planning and calculation. While his demeanor can sometimes come across as cold or overly pragmatic, leading others to question his motives, this is a surface impression. In truth, he is a deeply emotional and caring individual who prioritizes the well-being of his comrades above all else. He consistently makes decisions based on what he determines to be the best course of action for his team, even if those decisions appear harsh from an outside perspective. His strategic brilliance is complemented by a strong sense of political acumen, which is often necessary when dealing with the broader and sometimes obstructive Earth military leadership.

His primary role within the story is that of a commander, strategist, and scientist. He is the one who directs the Space Knights' operations, analyzing enemy movements and deploying his forces to counter the Radam threat. Beyond his command duties, Jamison is also highly intelligent and directly involved in the research and development of weapons to fight the aliens. He personally contributes to the development of anti-Radam兵器 (weapons) and the analysis of the Tekkaman transformation system. He is an exceptionally capable and versatile leader, often considered the one person the rest of the team can rely upon implicitly. His role is not just administrative; he is shown to be actively involved in critical missions, such as the development of a powerful anti-matter warhead missile to be used against a major enemy.

Jamison’s most important relationships are with the members of his team. He commands the loyalty and respect of the Space Knights, including core members like Noal (Ringo), Aki (Star), Milly, and Honda. He serves as a father figure and a trusted mentor to them. While his relationship with the protagonist, Blade, is initially professional, it deepens as he demonstrates his trust in the young Tekkaman and provides him with crucial support, such as the development of the Pegas system. Outside of his immediate command, Jamison often has a tense relationship with the higher echelons of the Earth's regular military, such as General Galt, whose agendas and methods frequently conflict with Jamison’s own strategies for combating the Radam.

Throughout the series, Commander Jamison does not undergo a radical personal transformation but rather demonstrates a deepening commitment to his cause and his people. His leadership is tested repeatedly as the stakes grow higher and the enemy becomes more powerful. He is shown making difficult and strategic decisions, such as relocating the Command Center and adapting to new threats. He is also the one to research and discover the terrible physical toll that the transformation process is taking on Blade, revealing that each transformation is accelerating the protagonist's cellular disintegration. This knowledge forces him to make even more calculated decisions regarding when to deploy his most powerful asset.

While his greatest abilities are his strategic leadership and scientific genius, Commander Jamison is not merely an armchair commander. He is also a highly proficient fighter, specifically noted to be an expert marksman. It is mentioned that he has achieved an A-class rating in shooting training, indicating he is more than capable of handling himself in combat should the need arise.
