Description
Kris Rutherford, alias Jinn, is a cyborg mercenary whose body consists of 60% mechanical augmentations. Tragedy struck when his family, former patrons of Müller Royal Laboratories, severed financial ties following the lead scientist’s arrest. In retaliation, Müller assassinated Kris’s parents and forcibly subjected him and his sister Kleene to experimental O-Tech modifications, leaving Kris physically reconstructed and Kleene scarred emotionally.
Operating under the alias Jinn within the mercenary group Rogue Out, Kris served a fraudulent Sister figure, believing she held the key to curing Kleene’s trauma. His ruthless efficiency during missions, such as abducting B-Cubers on Blue Garden, coexisted with an undercurrent of morality—intervening to spare captives undue suffering. Upon uncovering the Sister’s deceit, he executed her and later affiliated with Drakken Joe’s syndicate, assisting Kleene within Element 4. Loyalty dissolved when he discovered Drakken draining Kleene’s life force, prompting his betrayal.
Kris commands Wind Ether Gear, harnessing air currents for combat through techniques like Skymech Ninjutsu’s Windstorm Slash and Crushing Gale. Overdrive amplifies his abilities, manifesting three-dimensional Ether patterns and winged transformations. Cybernetic upgrades enable detached, rocket-propelled limbs guided by hand gestures.
Reserved and task-driven, Kris maintains emotional distance from all but Kleene. His dynamic with Shiki Granbell shifts from rivalry to grudging camaraderie after Shiki’s crew aids Kleene’s recovery. Post-Sister Ivry’s healing of Kleene and Weisz Steiner’s defeat of Müller, he softens marginally, joining Edens Zero’s Winds of Edens. Though stern, he subtly acknowledges bonds, such as tacitly accepting Shiki’s friendship.
His visual evolution mirrors narrative growth: early dark cloaks and ninja attire transition to sleeveless armor and scarves, later replaced by longer hair and a high-collared battle dress during Overdrive. These shifts chart his journey from solitary enforcer to protective sibling and crew ally.
