Description
Elk Domel is a senior officer serving in the Astro Fleet of the Great Garmillas Empire. He holds the rank of Lieutenant General and is assigned to lead the 6th Armored Space Division, often referred to as the Domel Army Corps, which is widely regarded as the most elite unit in the Garmillan armed forces. His nickname, the Space Wolf, reflects his unmatched reputation on the battlefield and his tactical brilliance.

Born in the early 2160s into the Domel family, he married Elisa, the daughter of a Garmillas diplomat. The couple had a son named Johann, but the boy died at a young age, a tragedy that deeply affected Domel and strained his relationship with his wife, as his duties often kept him away from home. He cherishes a pet rockroc bird, which he keeps as a companion.

Domel is a dedicated and principled soldier. He maintains a highly professional code of honor, treating senior officers and subordinates alike with respect. He values ability over species or origin and does not discriminate against those from conquered worlds, a trait that earns him the fierce loyalty of his diverse crew. He is fully committed to the service of the Garmillas Empire and its leader, Abelt Desler, but he remains completely uninterested in political power or personal fame. This lack of political ambition, combined with his immense popularity among the public, makes him a target of envy and resentment among some high-ranking officials. In contrast to the more formal attire of other generals, Domel prefers to wear a tight-fitting combat uniform while on duty.

Domel functions as a primary antagonist and a formidable strategic adversary for the crew of the space battleship Yamato. Before being assigned to hunt the Earth vessel, he successfully leads campaigns against the Gatlantis Empire in the Small Magellanic Cloud. His victories there earn him the Desler Cross, a prestigious award. He is then recalled to the Garmillas homeland and given command of the Galactic Theater, with the specific mission to pursue and destroy the Yamato.

His pursuit of the Yamato is complicated by internal Garmillan politics. After being framed by a rival, Inspector General Herm Zoellik, for the apparent assassination of Leader Desler, Domel is arrested and sentenced to death. He is exonerated only when Desler reveals himself to be alive. Following this ordeal, Domel is given a final chance to defeat the Yamato, leading to a meticulously planned ambush within the Rainbow Star Cluster. Using a prototype instant matter transporter and a drill missile, he nearly succeeds in destroying his target. However, the Earth ship's crew manages to reverse the drill missile, which destroys most of his fleet. Facing utter defeat, Domel pilots his command ship to attach to the Yamato and activates its self-destruct mechanism, choosing to die with his loyal subordinates rather than retreat. In his final moments, he communicates with Captain Juzo Okita, expressing his honor in facing such a worthy opponent.

A key relationship is with his wife, Elisa, who is imprisoned due to her anti-government activities and her association with Domel. He shares a deep bond with his subordinate, Colonel Vem Heidern, the captain of his flagship, Domelaze III, who remains with him until the end. He also commands the loyalty of other officers, such as Valcke Schulz, a member of a subject species whom Domel treats with respect. His primary adversarial relationship is with Captain Okita of the Yamato, whom he comes to respect greatly as a fellow commander and honorable soldier.

Throughout the story, Domel demonstrates considerable development. He transitions from a celebrated and confident commander to a man caught in a political conspiracy and ultimately to a tragic figure who sacrifices himself for his mission and his honor. He proves himself an adaptive and brilliant tactician, employing unconventional strategies such as using a dimensional submarine, telepathic infiltration, and advanced technology like the matter transporter. His abilities are not in personal combat but in strategic command, fleet maneuvering, and a deep understanding of military psychology, which allows him to earn the absolute devotion of his forces.
