Description
Kris Rutherford, operating under the codename Jinn, is a human cyborg with 60% mechanical augmentation from involuntary experiments by the scientist Müller. His family, patrons of Müller Royal Laboratories, withdrew financial support after Müller's arrest. Müller escaped, murdered Kris's parents, and subjected Kris and his younger sister Kleene to traumatic O-Tech experiments intended to emotionally break Kleene. The procedures left Kris with extensive cybernetics and Kleene with severe psychological trauma. Debt collectors working for crime lord Drakken Joe rescued the siblings. To secure Kleene's healing, Kris bargained with a woman posing as "Sister," joining her mercenary group Rogue Out as Jinn and training at Skymech Dojo alongside Callum Steelford.
Within Rogue Out, Jinn conducted missions with detached professionalism, including abducting B-Cubers from Planet Blue Garden. He demonstrated moral restraint by preventing excessive cruelty to captives, such as halting Ganoff’s torture of Rebecca Bluegarden. Battles against Shiki Granbell highlighted his Wind Ether Gear—manipulating wind for offense, defense, and high-speed movement—and cybernetic enhancements like detachable rocket-propelled arms. His Skymech Ninjutsu techniques included Windstorm Slash and Wind God Sky-Rending Slash. Upon discovering Rogue Out’s leader deceived him about healing Kleene, he killed the imposter despite prior loyalty.
After fleeing the Chronophage’s destruction of Guilst, Jinn and Kleene joined Drakken Joe’s organization. Jinn assisted Kleene, now the Element 4 member Sylph. His combat prowess advanced to Overdrive, amplifying his Ether Gear to unleash storms with 58-meter-per-second winds and overpower Shiki in a rematch. Learning Drakken Joe siphoned life force from everyone aboard the Belial Gore, including Kleene, Jinn betrayed Drakken and allied with the Edens Zero crew. He temporarily stayed on their ship before officially joining as the "Wind of Edens" after Sister Ivry healed Kleene’s trauma and Weisz Steiner defeated Müller.
Jinn evolved from a solitary, mission-focused mercenary into a more open protector. Initially acknowledging only Kleene as a friend, he integrated with the crew, smiling at Shiki’s friendship declaration and pledging commitment to his sister and the ship. Retaining memories through the Cosmic Retcon of Universe Zero, he remained a core Edens Zero member, contributing combat skills and loyalty on their final journey. His Universe Zero role emphasized enduring dedication to protecting Kleene and supporting the crew.
Physically, he has spiky green hair held by a headband, red eyes, and visible mechanical seams. His attire transitioned from a ninja-like cloak during mercenary work to sleeveless outfits with Edens Zero. By X495, his hair grew longer, and he wore a ninja-inspired ensemble under a long cloak.
