TV-Series
Description
Gremdt Goer is a senior military officer of the Great Garmillas Empire who holds the rank of Major General in the Imperial Garmillas Defense Force. As a key member of the Zoellik Faction, a powerful political group led by Imperial Marshall Herm Zoellik, Goer is appointed to the influential position of Galactic Theater Operations Commander during the Great Garmillas War against Earth. His primary base of operations is the Balun Military Base, from which he directs the empire's military efforts in the Milky Way galaxy.
Goer is defined by a potent combination of arrogance, opportunism, and deep-seated cowardice. He holds a contemptuous view of non-pure-blood Garmillans, often looking down upon subordinates like Colonel Valcke Schulz as second-class citizens, a trait that effectively visualizes the rigid class hierarchy within the Garmillas Empire. His hubris is immense, and he is quick to dismiss reports that do not align with his expectations, as seen when he refuses to believe initial intelligence regarding the Earth battleship Yamato’s immense power, dismissing it as impossible. Beneath this veneer of superiority, however, lies a cowardly nature. When facing personal danger, such as during a dimensional quake that threatened his fleet, he does not hesitate to order a retreat to save himself, abandoning his own forces in the process. He is also a skilled liar, willing to twist the truth or assign blame to others to protect his own position and reputation.
Goer’s primary motivation throughout the series is his own career advancement and the preservation of his status and power. He plans to leverage his position as commander of the Milky Way forces to secure the vacant post of Provincial Governor for the galaxy, a goal that fuels his actions. His loyalty to Supreme Leader Abelt Desler is conditional, based on the leader's power, yet he remains fiercely opposed to anyone he deems a traitor to the Desler regime. After a series of catastrophic failures against the Yamato, for which he often blames his subordinates, Goer is demoted from his post as theater commander and replaced by the more competent General Admiral Elk Domel. Goer is forced to serve as Domel’s deputy commander, a position he resents.
In his role within the story, Goer serves as an early antagonist and a symbol of the Garmillas Empire's internal decay and corruption. His incompetence and unwillingness to properly assess the Yamato threat allow the Earth ship to make crucial progress out of the solar system. A competent commander in his place might have mounted a decisive attack early on, but Goer’s failures create the necessary window for the Yamato’s journey to proceed. Following his demotion, he works under Domel. However, after the Supreme Leader is believed to have been assassinated and Imperial Marshall Zoellik attempts a coup, Goer dramatically switches allegiance, shooting Zoellik in the back to prove his loyalty to the returning Desler. After the fall of the Desler administration, Goer remains loyal to the exiled Supreme Leader. He gathers a fleet of thirty loyal warships and sets a trap for the returning Yamato at the Balun subspace gate, acting on Desler's orders.
Key relationships define Goer’s arc. He is disdainful of field commanders like Colonel Schulz, treating them as expendable underlings, and his relationship with his superior, Elk Domel, is one of begrudging obedience mixed with resentment. He is a central member of the Zoellik Faction, though he ultimately betrays the Imperial Marshall. His final loyalty is to Abelt Desler, whose regime he serves until his death, even though Desler himself finds Goer to be an annoyance.
Goer exhibits a degree of development across the series. While he begins as a supremely confident and politically powerful commander, his repeated failures lead to his demotion. Forced to serve under the man who replaced him, his arrogance is tempered by humiliation. Ultimately, he evolves from a self-serving political officer into a more desperate figure willing to follow the fallen Desler into exile, fighting not for personal advancement but for the survival of the old regime. In terms of abilities, Goer is depicted as a lackluster military strategist. His primary skills are political maneuvering and self-preservation rather than tactical brilliance. He commands from his flagship, the Gaiderol-class Astro Battleship Goergametsch, but rarely leads from the front. His notable abilities lie in his expressive villainy and his talent for navigating the treacherous political landscape of the Garmillas court, rather than any prowess in space combat.
