Description
Ghader Talan is a lieutenant general in the military of the Great Garmillas Empire and serves as the deputy chief of staff at Imperial Headquarters, a position that places him on the imperial cabinet under the rule of Leader Abelt Desler. His age is roughly equivalent to forty Earth years.

As a high-ranking officer, Talan is defined by a traditional soldier's temperament, marked by a strong sense of loyalty and a passionate dedication to his duties. He has been a staunch supporter of Desler since the leader's early rise to power, present at the first public announcement of the empire's interstellar conquests, and he personally helped to suppress a serious coup attempt against the regime.

Despite his unwavering loyalty, Talan possesses a clear moral sensibility and is not blindly obedient. He voiced profound moral outrage upon learning that the Imperial Guard under Director Hydom Gimleh had committed an act of genocide on the subject world of Alteria, revealing a principled stance beneath his military bearing. His motivations are also deeply personal, as he is the younger brother of Welte Talan, the Minister of Defense, and he persistently searches for his missing brother after the elder Talan disappears in battle.

Throughout the year 2199, Talan remains at the center of events that lead to the collapse of Desler's regime. He attends palace functions, cabinet meetings, and strategic briefings for battles against the Earth battleship Yamato. He is present in the palace command center during the Yamato's assault on the Garmillas homeworld, witnessing the destruction of Desler's space station and the leader's apparent death. Following the regime's fall, Talan continues to serve at the highest levels of the provisional government, reporting on military matters to Admiral Gul Ditz, including the continued insubordination of certain fleet units.

However, years later amid an escalating conflict with the Gatlantis Empire, Talan receives confirmation that Desler has survived. His dedication reasserts itself as he assembles a fleet of carriers and warships to rendezvous with his former leader, formally pledging his support and resuming his role as Desler's second-in-command. He assumes tactical command during engagements such as the blockade of the planet Terezart, directing fleet operations against the Yamato and maneuvering his own flagship to force the enemy vessel into an ocean landing. Talan's loyalty is such that he later learns the truth about Desler's expansionary campaigns—that they were driven by the knowledge that Garmillas was reaching the end of its lifespan—and he continues to serve within the reformed Galman Empire.

In his duties, Talan is portrayed as a level-headed officer who navigates treacherous political waters. He is shown handling sensitive information, such as presenting Admiral Keeling's DNA evidence to Desler during a breakfast meeting, and he is visibly startled by Desler's volatile demonstrations of temper. His role consistently places him in high-stakes scenarios, reinforcing his identity as a steadfast military commander whose loyalty is tempered by a sense of morality and personal honor. In the original continuity, he is also noted as being an exceptionally skillful pilot.
