Description
The character Hermepp, also known as Helmeppo, appears in One Piece Film Z as a commissioned officer of the Marines. At the time of the film's events, which take place after the two-year timeskip, he holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and is stationed at Marine Headquarters. He is frequently seen alongside his comrade Koby, and the two have become a recognizable pair within the organization.

In terms of his appearance in the film, Hermepp is shown to have undergone a significant transformation from his initial introduction. He wears a standard Marine officer’s coat over a purple shirt and sports a white hat, marking a more professional and mature look. His most notable physical features include his blonde hair, which has grown longer over time, and a pair of thin, fine glasses. This design reflects his serious commitment to his duties as a soldier.

Hermepp’s past is that of a spoiled and cowardly individual who hid behind the authority of his father, the former Marine Captain Morgan. He was accustomed to a life of luxury and used his father’s power to intimidate others. However, after his father’s downfall, he was forced to confront reality. Choosing to enlist in the Marines, he began a difficult journey of self-improvement, starting from the lowest positions like cleaning decks. His experience of being taken hostage by his own father, who showed him no affection, was a turning point. This caused him to renounce his parent and inspired him to forge his own path, becoming a braver and more reliable person. Over time, he developed a strong friendship with Koby, and the two motivate each other to grow stronger.

Within the narrative of One Piece Film Z, Hermepp’s role is not central to the main action but serves as part of the supporting Marine cast. A key scene involves Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp, who gathers Koby and Hermepp to recount the tragic backstory of the film's antagonist, the former Admiral Zephyr. Through this exposition, Hermepp, along with the audience, learns about Zephyr’s past as a legendary instructor who trained many of the current high-ranking Marines before a personal tragedy led him to form the Neo Marines. This positions Hermepp as a representative of the new generation of Marines who are learning about the complicated history and legacy of the institution they serve.

Regarding his abilities, Hermepp is a swordsman who has become a proficient fighter through his intense training in the Marines. He is shown to be a two-sword style user, wielding a pair of distinctive curved kukri knives which he keeps secured at his waist. While he has developed considerable combat skills and courage, he is still not depicted as being on par with the series' top-tier fighters, such as Roronoa Zoro, a reality he is comically aware of. His personal development continues to be a focus, as he has left behind his entitled past to become a thoughtful and capable officer dedicated to his sense of justice.
