Description
Basara Kurochi is a major character from the B-Daman Fireblast anime, recognized as a Dragon B-Shot who wields the legendary black dragon B-Daman. He originally comes from the North Block and lives in North City, where he has a reputation as a delinquent. His appearance is distinct, characterized by his red hair, golden-yellow eyes, and a tall, slender build. He typically wears a mustard-colored shirt under a black, fur-lined coat, paired with black pants, brown boots, and several belts.
Basara’s personality is complex, blending rebelliousness and obsession with a capacity for change that keeps him from being purely evil. On the surface, he appears as an aloof and violent individual, prone to frustration and overconfidence. He prefers to battle only the most skilled opponents, showing little interest in those he deems amateurs. His catchphrase reflects his destructive impulses, and he has been shown using his superhuman strength in various ways, such as kicking an oil drum with ease or denting a handrail with his foot. Flashbacks reveal that his violent nature stems from a deep-seated loneliness. Before obtaining his partner B-Daman, his uncontrollable strength led him to accidentally destroy many B-Daman, which only deepened his sadness. He uses violence as an outlet for this frustration, but his personality begins to shift after meeting his B-Daman, Drazeros, and interacting with other main characters.
In B-Daman Fireblast, Basara returns to find that his B-Daman, Double Drazeros, has evolved into Stream Drazeros over the six months following the defeat of a previous major threat. He arrives unannounced at the WBMA headquarters, demonstrating the upgraded B-Daman’s power by destroying a practice field. He is then dispatched by a commissioner on a mission to track down Kamon Godai, a B-Der with a mysterious past, an assignment he accepts for the chance to face a strong new opponent.
Basara’s role in the story is that of an anti-hero and a rival who often acts as a catalyst for others. His pursuit of Kamon leads him to challenge Mitsuru Hachisuka for information, which he wins easily. When he finally confronts Kamon, he arranges a test of skills, harshly evaluating Kamon and his friends by putting them through a difficult training exercise that leaves them electrocuted. He has high expectations and becomes irritated when others do not meet them, but this is part of his way of pushing them to improve.
His key relationships are primarily with Kamon and the other B-Ders. He acts as a rival and a harsh mentor figure to Kamon, showing a vested interest in his development. He is also associated with other Dragon B-Shots from previous events. Although he maintains a rough exterior, he eventually shows concern for others, such as when he worries about Kamon during a battle and reconciles his own past actions involving the legendary B-Daman.
Basara undergoes notable character development throughout the series. Initially driven by a desire to destroy other B-Daman, his experiences and defeats lead him to warm up to others. After a significant loss to Kamon, he becomes disappointed and withdraws, rejecting an offer of friendship. However, he later re-enters a major tournament. When a fellow character transforms into a dark persona and makes B-Daman battles illegal, Basara immediately takes action, freeing a captured ally and using his B-Daman’s power to help other players escape. This act demonstrates his shift from a solitary destroyer to someone who fights alongside others against a common threat.
In terms of abilities, Basara is defined by his incredible physical strength and his skill with his B-Daman, Stream Drazeros. This B-Daman is special because it can fire two shots simultaneously. Basara’s signature technique is the Emblem Charge Shot known as Twin-Dragon Judgement, a powerful attack capable of blowing away numerous targets at once and leaving large holes in the battlefield. He is also shown to be highly proficient with various Tune-Up Gear and customization parts, which he uses to adapt his B-Daman for different battle situations. His experience and power make him one of the more formidable B-Ders in the series.
