Description
Iori Minase is a prominent idol affiliated with 765 Production, first introduced in the original arcade game. She is a young girl of short stature with long, straight brown hair, often styled to showcase her forehead, which has become a notable and sometimes sensitive characteristic. Her typical attire is feminine and stylish, often featuring the color pink, and she is almost always seen carrying a cherished rabbit plush toy she calls Charles Donatello the 18th, or Usa-chan. Born on May 5th, she is the youngest daughter of the wealthy and influential Minase Group, possessing two older brothers who are highly successful in their respective fields.

Iori's public persona is that of a refined and elegant young lady, but this exterior masks her true personality. She is a classic tsundere, known for being prideful, strong-willed, and often sharp-tongued, particularly when interacting with her fellow idols and her producer. She greatly dislikes losing at anything, a trait she developed from constantly competing with her older brothers, and she is not afraid to voice her irritation or demanding nature. However, this haughty exterior is a front for a much softer, more caring, and occasionally vulnerable side that she is often embarrassed to show. Her signature laugh is a distinctive "nihihi".

The core motivation driving Iori to become an idol is a desire for self-affirmation and independence. Growing up in the shadow of her successful father and brothers, she became an idol to prove that she is not merely a wealthy heiress living off her family's name. She is determined to achieve success through her own talents and hard work, seeking recognition for her own abilities rather than her lineage. This drive manifests as a fierce professionalism and a high level of dedication to her craft. She holds herself to very strict standards and approaches her work with a serious, no-nonsense attitude.

Within the storyline of the anime and related media, Iori plays a significant role as a core member of 765 Production. She was selected as the leader of the popular subunit Ryuuguu Komachi by Ritsuko Akizuki, a testament to her reliability and talent. She often acts as a secondary leader within the larger group, frequently acting as a voice of reason, a sharp-eyed critic, and a source of tough love for her colleagues, often by delivering deadpan retorts or scolding the more mischievous members. She maintains a number of key relationships. Her closest friend is Yayoi Takatsuki, which is notable for crossing socioeconomic lines, as Yayoi comes from a very poor family. Iori is consistently kind and gentle towards Yayoi, with their bond being one of her most genuine and softest relationships. In stark contrast, she has a well-known rivalry with the more boyish Makoto Kikuchi, with the two frequently arguing and competing. She holds a deep respect for Ritsuko Akizuki, the producer who once sternly mentored her, and she listens to Ritsuko's advice.

Over the course of the story, Iori experiences notable development. While retaining her tsundere core, her more abrasive and selfish edges are softened, allowing her underlying kindness and strong sense of professionalism to come to the forefront. For instance, when faced with underhanded business tactics from a rival, her first instinct is to use her family's influence to fight back, but she is stopped and instead learns a valuable lesson about earning success fairly. In later storylines such as the movie and Million Live! arc, she matures into a senior idol who takes younger talents like Shiho Kitazawa under her wing, showing a capacity for mentorship and empathy that indicates significant personal growth.

As an idol, Iori boasts high basic performance abilities and is considered a "strong character" in management simulations. Her true talent lies in her powerful presence and fierce professionalism during live performances, where her competitive spirit and focus shine brightest. Outside of her idol duties, she has an interest in telling ghost stories to frighten her friends, enjoys traveling abroad, and is fluent in multiple languages. An alternate version of the character appears in The Idolmaster Xenoglossia, a separate continuity where she is reimagined as a skilled and determined pilot of a giant mecha named Nebula.
