Description
Muku was a shinobi from the Hidden Grass Village, Kusagakure, who appears in the fifth Naruto Shippūden film, Blood Prison. His name, written with the characters for innocence, reflects the tragedy of his life. Muku lost his mother when he was an infant and was raised solely by his father, Mui, the warden of Hōzuki Castle and the guardian of the Box of Ultimate Bliss, an ancient and dangerous artifact.
During his childhood, Muku was a cheerful and affectionate person who deeply loved his father. He also shared a close bond with Ryūzetsu, a fellow villager and kunoichi from Kusagakure. However, Muku's life took a dark turn when he was sacrificed and sealed inside the Box of Ultimate Bliss approximately ten years before the events of the film. This sacrifice was part of Mui's desperate plan to harness the box's power, but it resulted in Muku being trapped within it for a decade.
When the box is opened using Naruto's Nine-Tails chakra, Muku emerges outwardly as he once was. However, his time inside the box has fundamentally changed him. He is quickly possessed by Satori, a demonic entity that resides within the box and can read minds while feeding on fear. Deprived of emotions other than terror during his imprisonment, the real Muku is lost, and he becomes a mindless vessel for Satori. In this transformed state, he attacks his own father and his former friend, showing no recognition of them. Ultimately, his father Mui uses a sealing formula to bind Satori back within him, and Muku, still in the demon's grip, sets himself ablaze as he returns to the box, finding peace only in death.
Muku's role in the story is as the true antagonist and the tragic heart of the film. His fate drives the actions of his father and gives Ryūzetsu her personal stake in the conflict. His notable abilities are not those of a shinobi but rather the powers granted by Satori: flight, immense physical strength, the ability to read the minds of his opponents to anticipate their attacks, and the power to absorb human victims into the box. His character arc is one of loss and corruption, serving as the cost of his father's ambition.
