Movie
Description
Murata Tetsuya is a swordsmith living in Edo and the eldest son of the renowned swordsmith Murata Jintetsu. He runs a sword-making workshop alongside his younger sister, Tetsuko. Tetsuya inherited his father’s craft but was deeply affected by overhearing that he could never surpass his father’s skill. This drove him to devote his entire life to swordsmithing, placing the sword above all else. He created the Benizakura, a bio-mechanical sword based on his father’s original cursed blade, which he developed into a powerful weapon that could be wielded as a mobile combat device. Tetsuya has severe hearing problems and speaks in a loud, shouting manner, often ignoring what others say. His intense focus on perfecting his creation leads him to ally with Shinsuke Takasugi and the Kiheitai, providing them with the Benizakura without caring about their political ambitions or plots. In the events of Gintama: The Movie, Tetsuya initially approaches Gintoki Sakata to retrieve the stolen Benizakura, but it is later revealed that he is collaborating with the Kiheitai to refine the sword for mass production as a bioweapon. His sister Tetsuko, who believes in crafting swords to protect people, opposes his path and asks Gintoki to stop him. During the final confrontation, the Benizakura consumes its wielder Nizo Okada and goes berserk. When Tetsuko is endangered, Tetsuya sacrifices his own life to shield her, realizing the error of his obsession. His dying words encourage his sister to become a good swordsmith. Tetsuya’s abilities lie in his exceptional craftsmanship, allowing him to create a weapon of immense destructive potential. His notable physical trait is his long blue or black hair tied back, and he is characterized by a loud, headstrong personality driven by a deep-seated need to surpass his father’s legacy.
