Description
Ginzou Nakamori is a police inspector for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, serving as the head of the task force dedicated to capturing the elusive phantom thief known as Kaitou Kid. While his division is officially responsible for fraud cases, he has devoted the vast majority of his professional energy and time to stopping Kid, a pursuit that has defined his career. Prior to this single-minded focus, he worked as a homicide inspector, but he ultimately gave up that position to concentrate fully on apprehending the magician thief. He has been chasing Kid since his early days on the force, unaware that his quarry was originally the first Kaitou Kid, Toichi Kuroba, and later Toichis son, Kaito Kuroba, who also happens to be the best friend of his daughter, Aoko Nakamori.

Nakamori possesses a fiery and boisterous personality, often seen loudly directing his officers and losing his composure whenever his elaborate plans go wrong. He is extremely self-confident, regularly expressing absolute certainty that his latest strategy will finally succeed and is known to cackle to himself at the prospect of capturing Kid. His numerous defeats do little to dampen his public bravado, as he proudly declares on live news broadcasts that he will surely catch the thief next time. Despite his dedication and capability as a police officer, his impulsivity is often his downfall. He is frequently drawn into chasing obvious decoys or prematurely shutting down security measures, falling for tricks that a more cautious approach might avoid. He does not like asking for assistance, yet he has come to heavily appreciate the help of Conan Edogawa, who often works alongside him to outsmart Kid.

His motivations are deeply rooted in his professional duty and personal pride. Capturing Kid has become his lifes primary mission, and the challenge has turned into a personal rivalry. Interestingly, he becomes depressed or worried when Kid goes quiet for a while, as the return of the thief genuinely pleases him and gives his work purpose. Despite his intense dislike for Kid as a criminal, he holds a deep sense of respect for his rival's sense of honor and skill, willingly acknowledging that murder or other violent crimes are completely outside of Kid's nature. His role in the story is that of the determined, if perpetually outmatched, authority figure leading the official response to Kid's heists, providing a constant and often comedic counterbalance to the thief's flawless performances.

His most important personal relationship is with his daughter, Aoko Nakamori, who sometimes brings him lunch and cares for him despite his work often consuming the time they could spend together. He is also notably competitive with the young detective Saguru Hakuba, not wanting Hakuba to be the one to take credit for finally capturing Kid. In terms of development, Nakamori remains consistently dedicated to his mission across the series, showing no signs of abandoning his quest. His key ability lies in his exhaustive experience with Kid's methods, allowing him to plan intricate security cordons; however, his main role in the narrative is not defined by success but by his unyielding and spirited persistence, which makes him a respected and formidable, though ultimately unsuccessful, adversary.
