Description
Momo Kappa-chan is a female classmate of the protagonist Hanakappa and a member of the flower-headed kappa clan living in Yamabiko Village. She is a young kappa girl who, like Hanakappa, has a flower blooming on her head, specifically the same "toriaezu no hana" (provisional flower) that all young kappa possess until they mature and their permanent flower is decided. She is widely regarded as the village idol due to her very cute appearance, and she typically wears a red sleeveless dress. Her favorite food is strawberries.

Beneath her adorable exterior, Momo Kappa-chan possesses a personality that is notably more complex and layered than her initial impression suggests. She is often described as being quite crafty, calculating, and possessing a dark or even manipulative side, with some viewers noting a tendency toward sociopathic behaviors in certain storylines. This contrast between her sweet looks and her cunning nature makes her a uniquely mischievous character; she can be sweet and charming one moment and surprisingly sharp or scheming the next. Despite this, she is a competent and resourceful girl who often takes initiative, and she is not above using her charm to get what she wants. Her motivations are typically self-serving in a playful, childish way, and she often acts as a primary instigator of the village's many minor troubles alongside Hanakappa, Garizou, and Dr. Juuroku.

In the story, Momo Kappa-chan serves as a key friend and foil to Hanakappa. She is depicted as having a fondness for him, though she expresses it in a tsundere fashion, often acting tough or teasing him but ultimately showing care. She is also a central figure in the village's social dynamics, interacting regularly with the other children. Her key relationships include a rivalry of sorts with Garizou, whom she often treats with strength or pity, and a caretaking role toward the younger character Piyon. Her grandfather dotes on her excessively, and she deeply loves him in return, though she is not afraid to scold him when he goes too far, sometimes blushing furiously in embarrassment.

Momo Kappa-chan shares the same basic ability as all young kappa from her village: she can grow various flowers from her head. These flowers often have special properties or effects, sometimes even altering her personality or causing unusual events. One notable example is when a flower she grew could not be identified by even the most knowledgeable characters. Another key trait is her cooking. Although her dishes look visually appealing and delicious, they are notoriously terrible due to her being extremely "taste-blind," resulting in food that tastes like a dirty rag, a fact of which she is completely unaware. She has also demonstrated the ability to use a helmet accessory; when worn in reverse, it transforms her into a powerful and even more mischievous alter-ego called "Sageru-chan," whose power is formidable and capable of altering the weather with a peace sign. A recurring catchphrase associated with this state is "Lucky de Happy," which is presented as a dangerously powerful phrase.
