Description
Mama, also known as Popporinu, is the mother of the young kappa Hanakappa and the wife of Himagoro in the anime Hana Kappa. She lives with her family in a pond in the lush village of Yamabiko, where all the kappa have flowers growing on their heads. Her flower is a dandelion, which distinguishes her from the other family members. Her background is that of a typical housewife in the kappa community, focused on the daily routines of her household. She prepares meals, maintains the home, and looks after her son, Hanakappa, as well as her husband and the grandparents. Her personality is gentle, patient, and nurturing. She is often shown providing reassurance and care when Hanakappa or others face minor troubles, but she can also be firm when necessary. Her primary motivation is the happiness and safety of her family, and she rarely seeks personal gain. In the story, she serves as a stable, supportive figure who helps ground the more energetic characters, particularly her son. Her key relationships include her husband Himagoro, with whom she shares a cooperative and affectionate partnership, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, who also live with them. She also interacts with other villagers and friends of Hanakappa, treating them with warmth. Throughout the series, her character does not undergo major development; she remains a consistent, loving presence. As a kappa, she possesses typical physical traits such as webbed hands, a turtle-like shell on her back, and an affinity for water. She also has the ability to grow a flower on her head, though its bloom is permanent and not subject to the same variation as Hanakappa's. Her notable abilities are primarily domestic, such as cooking and household management, rather than combat or magical powers.
