TV-Series
Description
Maya Kumashiro is the daughter of Junichirou Kumashiro, the late headmaster of Waldstein Academy, an institution widely known as the Occult Academy due to its focus on paranormal research. Following her father's sudden death, Maya inherits the position of headmistress and returns to the academy with the declared intention of shutting it down. She is a composed and often stern young woman with long black hair and blue eyes, and she carries herself with a cool, no-nonsense demeanor. Despite her outward rejection of the occult, Maya possesses an extensive and practical knowledge of supernatural phenomena, a fact that becomes evident when she correctly identifies and counters various paranormal threats.

Maya's hatred for the occult is rooted in her personal history. Her father was once loving and attentive, but his obsessive devotion to occult research caused him to neglect his wife and daughter, ultimately driving them away. This betrayal left Maya with deep resentment, and she publicly denounces all things occult as a result. However, her motivations are more complex than simple hatred: she is determined to uncover the truth behind her father's death, which she suspects was not accidental. Her investigation leads her to cooperate with Fumiaki Uchida, a time traveler from the year 2012 who claims the future is threatened by an alien invasion linked to an artifact known as the Nostradamus Key. Maya agrees to help him find the key, driven both by her desire for answers and a growing sense of responsibility.

Throughout the story, Maya's role evolves from a reluctant headmistress intent on demolition to an active leader and protector of the academy. She forms key relationships with several characters. She is particularly harsh toward Fumiaki, often displaying a sadistic streak in her treatment of him, yet she gradually comes to trust him and work alongside him. Her childhood friend Ami Kuroki provides emotional support and reminds Maya of the more carefree person she used to be. Maya also interacts with other students and staff, such as the occult enthusiast Kozue Naruse and the enigmatic JK, but she maintains a certain distance due to her position.

Maya undergoes significant character development over the course of the series. Her initial hatred softens as she witnesses the genuine dangers posed by occult forces and recognizes the value of her father's research. She moves from a stance of destruction to one of preservation, eventually vowing to protect the academy and the knowledge it holds. This change reflects a reconciliation with her own past and a renewed appreciation for the mysteries she once rejected.

In terms of abilities, Maya is highly knowledgeable about myths, legends, and supernatural entities, allowing her to quickly assess threats and devise countermeasures. She is physically capable and not afraid to use force, as demonstrated when she beats a summoned ghost with her suitcase. She also exhibits strong leadership and tactical thinking, directing others during crises. While she is not a supernaturally powered character herself, her intelligence and determination make her an effective headmistress and a central figure in the fight to alter the future.
