Description
Originating from the mermaid kingdom Grand Ocean under the Mermaid Queen's rule, Laura Apollodoros Hyginus La Mer was a candidate for the throne tasked with locating the legendary Pretty Cure warriors. Her mission: to save her home from the Witch of Delays, who stole the inhabitants' Motivation Power. Her full name reflected her heritage and aspirations: "Laura" from Latin "bay laurel plant" (symbolizing victory), "Apollodoros" meaning "gift of Apollo," "Hyginus" meaning "healthy" or "auspicious," and "La Mer" translating to "the sea" in French.

Initially self-confident and sometimes selfish, Laura spoke her mind openly and viewed humans like Natsuumi Manatsu as mere tools to achieve queenship. Her early interactions with Manatsu showed contempt, though she gradually warmed to her after witnessing Manatsu's transformation into Cure Summer. Confined to the Mermaid Aqua Pot on land, Laura struggled with loneliness, yearning to participate in human activities but fearing exposure. She harbored a short temper when others doubted mermaids or plans diverged from her expectations.

Physically, Laura possessed long pink hair, blue eyes, and a cyan-and-white tail adorned with pearls and fins. Using the Mermaid Aqua Pact granted her human legs while retaining her pink hair; she wore attire reflecting her origins, like light blue skirts with star accents and platform mules. Transforming into Cure La Mer altered her appearance significantly: her hair became sky-blue with pink ombre, featuring pearls and a turquoise headdress. Her outfit included frilled sleeves, a scalloped skirt resembling a mermaid tail, and cyan nail polish as her designated charm point. Later power-ups like Excellen-Tropical Style and Snow Crystal Tropical Style introduced rainbow-gradient dresses, golden tiaras, and heart-shaped wings.

Laura's relationships evolved substantially. Her bond with Manatsu deepened after recalling a forgotten childhood encounter on Minamino Island where they made a promise to reunit, erased from Laura's memory upon her return to Grand Ocean. She formed connections with the other Cures—Sango Suzumura (Cure Coral), Minori Ichinose (Cure Papaya), and Asuka Takizawa (Cure Flamingo)—initially doubting their reliability but eventually valuing them as allies. She acted as a caretaker for the sea fairy Kururun, despite communication barriers. A significant friendship developed with fellow royal Sharon; bonding over songs, Laura vowed to spread Sharon's song after witnessing her demise. Her reverence for the Mermaid Queen remained steadfast as a maternal figure.

As Cure La Mer, Laura wielded the Mermaid Aqua Pact to transform and perform attacks like "Kurukuru La Mer Stream," a whirlpool water blast, and "Ocean Bubble Shower," a sealing bubble technique. She reclaimed stolen Motivation Power using the Mermaid Aqua Pot, a tablet that also served as her temporary land residence. Her combat style emphasized agility and water-based maneuvers, leveraging her human legs for mobility.

Key developments defined Laura's arc:
- She rejected the Witch of Delays' offer of humanity in exchange for abandoning her mission, declaring she would achieve this goal on her own terms.
- She gained permanent human form after transforming into Cure La Mer to rescue Manatsu, symbolizing her commitment to both friends and ideals.
- She challenged Grand Ocean's law requiring memory erasure after human contact, ultimately destroying the memory-altering machine to preserve her bonds with the Cures.
- She evolved from ambition-driven isolation to valuing collective effort, deciding to split her time between Aozora City and Grand Ocean to prepare for queenship while maintaining her friendships.

In the film *Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure the Movie: The Snow Princess and the Miraculous Ring!*, Laura encountered Sharon, the last survivor of the snow kingdom Shantia. Bonding over shared royalty and musical passion, Laura vowed to preserve Shantia's song after Sharon's disappearance.
