Movie
Description
Guame, known as Guame the Immovable, is one of the Four Supreme Generals serving the Spiral King, Lordgenome. He is the oldest of these generals and holds the position of commander of the battleship Dai-Gundo, specializing in ground combat within the Spiral King's forces. His physical appearance blends features of a crocodile and an armadillo, giving him a distinctive, reptilian look that reflects his advanced age and resilient nature.
Guame's background is notably different from other beastmen. While most beastmen were artificially created by Lordgenome, Guame is believed to have originally been a simple armadillo-like creature that accompanied the Spiral King for ages. Some sources suggest he evolved over time, possibly by absorbing his master's Spiral Power, to become the intelligent and powerful general seen in the story. This unique origin makes him one of the few beastmen capable of wielding Spiral Power, which explains his longevity and his ability to operate advanced machines like the spinning defense system of the capital, Teppelin.
In terms of personality, Guame is cunning, sly, and carries a perverted and lecherous streak. He is often seen making snide, mocking comments, such as making light of the relationship between his fellow generals, Thymilph and Adiane. While the other generals worship Lordgenome as a god, Guame merely has a deep, age-old respect for him, allowing for a unique rapport where he is one of the few who can speak his mind and openly question the king. His advanced age, having lived for thousands of years, makes him view the other, much younger generals as pups or upstarts. He is also a strategic thinker, preferring to set elaborate traps to capture his enemies rather than relying solely on brute force.
Guame's primary motivation is to serve Lordgenome's will and maintain the status quo, partly because he has firsthand knowledge of the Spiral Nemesis, the catastrophic event that Spiral Power can cause if left unchecked. He views the rise of humanity and their use of Spiral Power as a direct threat to the universe's stability. This is why he is so determined to eliminate Team Dai-Gurren. His role in the story is that of a major antagonist in the first half. He is responsible for capturing the crew of the Dai-Gurren by luring them into a trap with a false distress signal. During this time, he has a pivotal encounter with Nia Teppelin, Lordgenome's daughter, revealing to her that her father intended for her to be killed. He then gropes her and makes a lewd proposition for her to become the leader of a "Beauty Village" in exchange for her life, an offer she proudly refuses. This act directly leads to his conflict with Simon, who, reinvigorated, fights to rescue Nia.
Key relationships define Guame's position. His most important relationship is with Lordgenome, whom he has served faithfully since before the Beastman War. He is also a rival and colleague to the other three generals: the arrogant Cytomander, the aggressive Thymilph, and the temperamental Adiane. During Team Dai-Gurren's final assault on Teppelin, Guame and Cytomander launch a desperate two-pronged counterattack using their battleships. When Cytomander is defeated, Guame uses the Dai-Gundo to create a massive, drill-shaped tornado barrier powered by Teppelin's energy, intending to wipe out the human forces. Throughout the story, Guame shows little development in his personality, remaining a calculating and lecherous villain. His end comes when Simon pilots Gurren Lagaan to tunnel underneath the Dai-Gundo, impaling it and Guame from below with a colossal drill, causing the battleship to explode.
Guame possesses several notable abilities. As a general, he is a skilled strategist and commander. Unlike other beastmen, he can naturally use Spiral Power, which he channels into his machines. His personal Gunmen is the Gember, a heavily armored machine that lives up to Guame's title of "the Immovable". The Gember has two primary forms. Its normal form is an orange, armored gorilla with long, flexible, insect-like antennae for binding enemies. It can also transform into a massive, armored wood louse with a face on its back and needle-like legs. The Gember's ultimate attack, known as the Desperado Engrave in the movie Childhood's End, involves catching an enemy in a crushing bear hug and impaling them with needles from its arms. Guame also commands the Dai-Gundo, a colossal battleship from the ancient Anti-Spiral wars that can generate a powerful, spinning defensive barrier.
