Description
Kokoa Shuzen is the younger half-sister of Moka Akashiya, born to Gyokuro Shuzen and Issa Shuzen. Gyokuro conceived Kokoa in an attempt to regain Issa's attention from his second wife Akasha, a plan that ultimately did not succeed. Kokoa is the second child of the Shuzen household, with older sisters Akua and Kahlua and stepsister Moka. She shares Moka's green eyes but has distinct orange hair and a shorter stature. Unlike Moka, Kokoa's vampire powers are not sealed by a rosario, yet she does not possess the same level of raw supernatural strength as her sister. To compensate, she relies on her pet bat Kou, which can transform into a variety of weapons such as chainsaws and swords; Kokoa wields these weapons with considerable skill, making her a formidable fighter.
Kokoa has a strong, stubborn, and prideful personality. She openly believes in the superiority of vampires and often displays a smug attitude. Deep down, she harbors a powerful inferiority complex toward her older sisters, especially toward Moka's powerful inner personality, which she adores and refers to as "Onee-sama". Kokoa despises Moka's sealed outer personality and constantly attacks her in hopes of breaking the rosario and freeing the inner Moka. She resents that Tsukune Aono, a human, can effortlessly remove the rosario and access that power, something she herself cannot do. This resentment leads her to initially act as an antagonist, challenging Moka repeatedly.
Her central motivation is to shatter the seal and restore her idolized inner sister permanently. As the story progresses, she begins to accept both sides of Moka and gradually warms to Tsukune. During the climax of the Capu2 anime, she develops feelings for him after witnessing his willingness to risk his life against her father for Moka's sake. She eventually accepts Tsukune as a friend and softens her stance toward the outer Moka.
Kokoa also has a fraught relationship with her eldest sister Kahlua Shuzen, whom she fears deeply. Kahlua is known as the kindest of the Shuzen sisters but has an unsettling habit of overly doting on Kokoa, which Kokoa finds terrifying.
Notable abilities include her own vampire constitution—enhanced physical capabilities, resistance to harm, and likely the ability to fly, though her battle style primarily revolves around using Kou's weapon forms. She is also shown to be quick-witted and resourceful in combat. Overall, Kokoa evolves from a prideful, scornful younger sister into a loyal ally who learns to accept her family and form new bonds of her own.
