Description
Ali Al Saachez is a central antagonist in the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00. He is a freelance mercenary and former guerrilla leader with a deeply ingrained love for conflict and violence. Saachez stands approximately 190 cm tall and was born on July 11, 2272. By the time of the second season, he is 40 years old.
Saachez originally hails from the Middle East and was the founder and leader of a terrorist organization known as the KPSA in the Republic of Kurgis. During this time, he trained a group of child soldiers, indoctrinating them to fight in the name of a twisted ideology. He was directly responsible for the radicalization of Soran Ibrahim, the boy who would later become the Gundam Meister known as Setsuna F. Seiei, forcing him to commit patricide as an act of devotion. After the KPSA was disbanded, Saachez transitioned into a life as a highly paid mercenary, working for private military contractors like PMC Trust and, under the alias Gary Biaggi, for the AEU’s French Foreign Legion.
The core of Saachez’s personality is a pure, unapologetic enthusiasm for war. He is described as ruthless, selfish, and underhanded, taking genuine pleasure in chaos, bloodshed, and the suffering of others. Unlike other antagonists who fight for political power, ideology, or revenge, Saachez’s sole motivation is the thrill of battle itself. He fights for the sheer joy of it and has openly stated that he follows the most primitive human impulses. He is not interested in money or a cause beyond the opportunity to kill and destroy, making him a chaotic and unpredictable force. His love for combat is reflected in his personal aesthetic, as he favors the color crimson, which adorns his clothing and his custom mobile suits.
Throughout the story, Saachez serves as a direct and personal antagonist to multiple members of the Celestial Being crew. His past actions have created lasting trauma for the protagonists. He is responsible for the suicide bombing that killed the family of Lockon Stratos, the pilot of the Gundam Dynames, an event that shaped the lives of both the original Lockon, Neil Dylandy, and his twin brother, Lyle Dylandy. For Setsuna, Saachez represents his violent past and the sins he is trying to atone for; he is both a former mentor and the man who perverted his childhood.
In the second season, Saachez becomes an agent for the Innovators, a group of artificial beings seeking to control humanity’s future. This alliance is purely transactional, as it grants him access to powerful new mobile suits and more opportunities to wage war. His primary mobile suit in the second season is the GNW-20000 Arche Gundam, a high-mobility unit designed specifically for close-quarters combat, which matches his aggressive and lethal piloting style. Saachez is an exceptionally skilled pilot and hand-to-hand combatant, proficient in deception and manipulation, and is shown to be capable of fighting multiple Gundam Meisters simultaneously without being overpowered.
Ali Al Saachez undergoes no moral development or redemption arc. He remains a static embodiment of conflict to his end. His final confrontation occurs in the penultimate episode of the series, where he is tracked down and killed by Lyle Dylandy, the new pilot of the Gundam Cherudim, who overcomes his hesitation to avenge his family. Saachez dies as he lived, as a monster of pure violence whose only purpose was to fight.
