Description
Leesa Kujo, who later adopts the name Sumeragi Lee Noriega, serves as the tactical forecaster and de facto commander of the Celestial Being mothership Ptolemaios in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season. She is introduced as the highest-ranking officer aboard and is responsible for drafting all operational plans and directing the Gundam Meisters during missions. Her strategic predictions are almost always accurate, making her an invaluable asset to the organization.
Born Leesa Kujo, she was originally a highly motivated and self-confident individual who aspired to become a tactical strategist in order to reduce casualties among soldiers. She attended college alongside Billy Katagiri and was mentored by Professor Ralph Eifman, a connection that later influences her personal and professional life. Before the events of the second season, the devastating losses suffered by Celestial Being at the end of the first season weigh heavily on her. She blames herself for the deaths of comrades caused by her plans, and this guilt leads her to leave the organization. When Celestial Being reemerges four years later, she initially refuses to rejoin, but encouragement from her former companions helps her find the resolve to return and resume her role.
Sumeragi’s personality is shaped by a sharp contrast between her professional precision and her off-duty demeanor. In battle, she is calm, analytical, and decisive, able to process complex situations quickly and adapt strategies on the fly. Outside of operations, she is known for her habit of drinking, often seen with a flask in hand even during critical moments. This habit reflects a self-destructive coping mechanism for the trauma she carries, yet it does not impair her tactical abilities. Her relationships with the Ptolemaios crew, including the Gundam Meisters Setsuna F. Seiei, Lockon Stratos, Allelujah Haptism, and Tieria Erde, are built on mutual respect. She coordinates their unique strengths and maintains a professional but caring leadership style. Her connection to Billy Katagiri, a former colleague who later sides with the opposing A-Laws forces, adds a layer of personal conflict and regret to her story.
Throughout the second season, Sumeragi experiences significant development as she confronts her past failures and learns to trust her own judgment again. She becomes more willing to rely on her crew and accepts that even the best strategies cannot save everyone. By the end of the series, she chooses to remain with Celestial Being, continuing her work as a tactical forecaster. Her abilities include exceptional analytical and forecasting skills, strong command presence, and the capacity to make difficult decisions under extreme pressure. These qualities make her one of the most effective leaders within the organization.
