Description
Adilicia Ren Mathers is the young and powerful hereditary head of the prestigious Magic Society Goetia. Hailing from a distinguished lineage, she is a descendant of the biblical King Solomon, which grants her a unique heritage in the world of magic. Her full name is sometimes presented as Adilicia Lenn Mathers, and she is also known by the nickname Adi. Adilicia is depicted as a high school girl with a distinctive appearance, characterized by bright golden hair and emerald eyes. She is often seen wearing a jet-black robe and a beret, which serves as her trademark accessory, though in the anime adaptation, her usual attire is blue.

Driven by a strong sense of duty and personal motivation, Adilicia became the youngest company head in the history of Goetia. She initially left her studies at a prestigious magical academy in England, where she was competing with her rival Honami Takase Ambler for the top position, to assume leadership of Goetia following a family incident. Her primary motivation for traveling to Japan was to chase after her father, who had committed a magical taboo, a situation she was eventually able to resolve with the assistance of the magical service company Astral. After this resolution, she chose to remain in Japan to live the life of an ordinary high school student alongside Itsuki Iba and the others, though she later returns to England when the Goetia headquarters requires her presence.

In her role within the story, Adilicia is a powerful figure who serves as both a rival and an ally to the main characters. She is deeply interested in Itsuki Iba, the president of Astral, for whom she harbors a romantic crush. This affection manifests in a complex manner; like her rival Honami, she is often the first to criticize Itsuki for his perceived low magical capabilities. She also displays a possessive and jealous streak, sometimes reacting with physical violence, such as hitting Itsuki on the head, when other girls pay him attention. Her school life places her in close proximity to him, as she sits to his right in class. During the alchemist incident, she became a major shareholder in Astral, acquiring twenty percent of its operations, and after this incident, she frequently fights alongside the employees of the company.

Adilicia has several key relationships that define her interactions. Her most prominent dynamic is her arch-rivalry with Honami, with whom she competed at their academy in England. While they are openly rivals and quick to put each other down, there is an underlying mutual respect and friendship between them. Her relationship with Itsuki is central to her character; she is in love with him and tries to force him to sign a contract as a major shareholder, but she also openly criticizes his lack of ability. Beyond these human connections, she has a notable relationship with the demons she summons, and she was one of the few people capable of summoning the powerful demon Asmoday. Despite her formidable magical power, she has a soft spot for frills and cute things like stuffed toys but possesses no intuition or skill for cooking.

Adilicia undergoes a degree of development from a rival outsider to a more integrated ally. She arrives in Japan as the head of a rival magical society chasing a personal family matter. Through her interactions with Astral, she resolves her father's issues and becomes more involved with Itsuki and the group, eventually becoming a shareholder and fighting alongside them rather than against them. Her personal life also develops as she settles into the routine of a Japanese high schooler, even though she remains deeply connected to her duties as the head of Goetia in England.

Adilicia's most notable abilities are rooted in her practice of the dark arts of Solomon, which allows her to summon and command the seventy-two spirits of the Ars Goetia. She is a demon summoner capable of calling upon powerful spirits, typically favoring attack-type demons rather than recovery types. Her power is significant enough that she can summon at least twenty different demons and even a high-ranking demon like Asmoday. Beyond summoning, she is also skilled in returning demons to their own world using an amulet and possesses a keen awareness of magical presence, such as being able to sense the magical string connecting Itsuki to Asmoday. Her heritage as a descendant of King Solomon is the source of this immense magical authority, making her one of the most formidable mages of her generation.
