Description
Otome Asakura is one of the central heroines of the Da Capo II story and a major figure in D.C.II S.S., the anime's second season. She is a granddaughter of Junichi and Nemu Asakura and lives in the Asakura household next door to the Sakurai home, having grown up alongside Yoshiyuki Sakurai almost as part of the same family. During the events of the series she is a student in class 2-3 at Kazemi Academy and serves as chairman of the student council. She has a petite build, long brown hair, and blue eyes, and she carries a fragile constitution, with a weak circulation that she inherited from her grandmother Nemu.

In terms of background, Otome belongs to a notable magical lineage. She inherited magical abilities from her father, and from her mother, Yuhime, she inherited the role of a magician who protects Hatsune Island and watches over magical power, a duty that also comes with a burden. She is one of the very few people, alongside Sakura Yoshino, who knows that Yoshiyuki was created through a wish made upon the Sakura tree, a secret that deeply influences how she understands both him and the world around her.

Otome is kind-hearted, warm, and highly attentive to the needs of others. She is a diligent and responsible student council president who takes her duties seriously, sometimes to the point of overextending herself; in the first season she falls ill from worry over a situation involving Minatsu. She has a strong sense of justice and describes herself as a "Magician of Justice," with an overwhelming passion for upholding what is right and wrong. Despite her composed and capable public manner, she is emotionally sensitive and can be deeply moved, as shown when she cries while performing the female lead role in a puppet show after taking over from Koko. In her childhood she was very reserved and withdrawn, and she became more open and expressive largely through her bond with Yoshiyuki.

Her relationship with Yoshiyuki is central to her role in the story. She affectionately calls him "otouto-kun," meaning little brother, and takes great care with his daily life, such as making him rehearse every night for an upcoming play in which he had the lead role. At first her feelings appear sisterly, but during the second season it becomes increasingly clear that her affection for him goes beyond that of a sister. The two share a childhood promise to be whole-heartedly together, and her protectiveness and concern for him remain constant throughout the series. She also has a close relationship with her younger sister, Yume Asakura.

In the conflict of D.C.II S.S., Otome moves from being a supportive elder-sister figure to being central to the main dilemma. When the Sakura tree begins to malfunction and grants all wishes indiscriminately, causing growing chaos on Hatsune Island, Otome faces a painful decision: she must choose whether to wither the tree in order to save the island, even though doing so would erase Yoshiyuki's existence, since he was born from a wish made upon that tree. This choice brings her sense of duty, her love for Yoshiyuki, and her desire to protect the people around her into direct conflict.

Over the course of the series, Otome develops from a reserved girl who kept much of herself closed off into a confident and caring young woman who is open with her feelings. Her growth is closely tied to Yoshiyuki, whose encouragement helped her emerge from her shell, and in turn she becomes someone willing to shoulder great responsibility for the sake of others. In terms of abilities, Otome possesses inherited magical power, along with the role and burden of the magician who protects Hatsune Island, passed down from her mother's side. Her connection to the Sakura tree and her knowledge of its true nature place her in a unique position within the story's magical conflicts, though her fragile health means that the demands placed on her often take a physical toll.
