TV-Series
Description
Keenan Crier is a main character distinguished by his unique origin and upbringing. Unlike his peers in the organization DATS, Keenan did not grow up in the human world. He was born on Earth to scientists Kevin and Michelle Crier, but as an infant, he was accidentally transported to the Digital World through a portal. There, he was found and raised by a Frigimon, who became a mother figure to him, alongside a young Digimon named Falcomon, who became his partner and brother. After Frigimon was killed, Keenan was taken in and raised by Merukimon, a powerful Digimon who served as a father figure. This childhood led Keenan to identify more with Digimon than with his own species, and he initially viewed humans as a threat to the Digital World's peace.
In terms of personality, Keenan is initially hostile and aggressive toward humans, driven by the trauma of watching Frigimon die at the hands of a human scientist. He believes all humans are evil and is dedicated to defending the Digital World from them. Despite his young age, he is a skilled and capable fighter, possessing a wild and untamed nature that reflects his environment. He speaks in a simplistic, almost broken manner, often referring to himself in the third person, a trait common to characters raised in isolation. However, beneath his rough exterior is a deep sense of loyalty, honor, and a longing for family and belonging.
Keenan's primary motivation throughout the story evolves from revenge and the protection of the Digital World to a more balanced desire for peace between humans and Digimon. His initial goal is to repel human intruders, but after meeting Marcus Damon and the other DATS members, he begins to question his beliefs. The tragic death of Merukimon at the hands of the human villain Kurata forces Keenan to confront his hatred and realize that only evil humans are his true enemy.
Keenan's role in the story is that of a foil to the human-centric view of the main cast, providing a perspective from the Digital World. He serves as a bridge between the two worlds, and his internal conflict drives much of the narrative's emotional core. He is the fourth main character to join the team, and his presence introduces themes of family, loss, and reconciliation. His journey involves him being forced into the human world, where he learns about his biological parents and younger sister, Ruka. To protect them from persecution by the government, he denounces his humanity and goes into hiding, eventually being taken in by Marcus's family, where he finds a surrogate home.
Key relationships define Keenan's development. His bond with Falcomon is that of brothers, having grown up together, and they fight seamlessly as a unit. Merukimon is a father figure whose dying wish helps reshape Keenan's worldview. Marcus Damon acts as a surrogate older brother, challenging Keenan's beliefs and showing him that humans can be honorable. His relationships with his biological parents are strained and tragic, as he loves them but feels he cannot be part of their lives due to his past and their safety. Kristy Damon, Marcus's younger sister, becomes a close friend and classmate in the epilogue.
Throughout the series, Keenan undergoes significant character development. He transforms from a wild child who believes he is a Digimon into a young man who accepts his humanity while still honoring his Digital upbringing. Initially driven by rage and a desire for vengeance, he learns to forgive and understand the complexity of good and evil in both species. His emotional growth is directly tied to his power, as his evolving Digi-Soul allows Falcomon to digivolve to higher forms, such as Crowmon, Ravemon, and eventually Ravemon Burst Mode, which he achieves during a battle with the Royal Knight Duftmon.
Keenan possesses several notable abilities beyond his partnership with Falcomon. He is a proficient physical fighter, having learned ninja-like combat techniques from his life in the Digital World. His signature weapon is a large red and white boomerang, which he wields with great accuracy. He also wears a green cape and a necklace adorned with feathers, and traditionally has cyan face paint, which he stops using after the final battle. His most significant power is his ability to generate Digi-Soul, a form of emotional energy used to evolve his partner. After the final conflict, five years later, he is seen living a normal life, attending middle school with Kristy Damon, having integrated successfully into human society.
