Description
Gotsumon is a mineral-type Digimon, structured from mineral data, which grants him strong defensive capabilities. In Digimon: Data Squad, he first appears as a servant of the powerful Digimon Merukimon, residing with his master in the Infinity Ice Ridge. Despite being a Rookie-level Digimon, he holds a relatively high rank in Merukimon's chain of command and often uses a Yanmamon for transportation.

Gotsumon possesses an energetic and mischievous personality, though he can also be rather selfish. When angered, he becomes violent, comparable to a volcanic eruption. His defining characteristic in this series is his intense hatred for humans, which surpasses even that of his master Merukimon. This deep-seated animosity is motivated by fear and paranoia, as he views humans as a threat invading the Digital World. He particularly resents the human boy Keenan, feeling jealous that Merukimon favors the child over him, and he mockingly refers to Keenan's partner, Falcomon, as Keenan's slave.

Gotsumon's primary role in the story is as a recurring antagonist for the DATS team. He is driven by a personal vendetta to eliminate Keenan and the human invaders. His actions directly defy Merukimon's orders, as he repeatedly attacks the protagonists. He is responsible for summoning a Mammothmon to cause an avalanche and later forms a secret alliance with SaberLeomon, leading an army of Boarmon and Pteramon into the human world to capture Keenan. Over time, his obsession grows to the point where he decides to confront the humans directly. In a final battle, he digivolves into his Ultimate form, Meteormon, a larger, greenish-white Digimon capable of flight. In this form, he is a formidable Lightning Bruiser, overwhelming the DATS team with his speed and power until he is ultimately deleted by RizeGreymon and reverts to a Digi-Egg.

Later in the series, after the DATS team returns to the Digital World, they encounter Gotsumon again. He has been reborn and has no memories of his previous life. Without his past animosity, he becomes an ally, volunteering to guide the team to Yggdrasil, the god of the Digital World. He even humorously forgives the team after learning that one of their evolved forms, ShineGreymon, had accidentally landed on him and buried him in the sand.

Gotsumon's key relationships are defined by his loyalties and rivalries. He serves as a dragon to Merukimon, though his disobedience makes him an enigmatic minion. His hatred for Keenan and Falcomon is a primary driver of his villainous actions, and a secret alliance with SaberLeomon marks a significant betrayal of his master. After his rebirth, this dynamic completely reverses, and he forms a positive, if brief, bond with the DATS team, particularly with Marcus Damon, whose straightforward words about forgiveness resonate with him.

In terms of abilities, Gotsumon's signature attack is Angry Rock, where he fires super-hard minerals from the top of his head. Other attacks include Rock Fist, where he shoots rocks, and Crazy Crusher, which shakes the ground with great force. As Meteormon, his power increases dramatically; he can fly and summon meteors from another dimension to hurl at his enemies, with Cosmo Flash being a notable attack.
