Description
Megumi Shirokawa is a fictional character from the anime series Digimon Data Squad. She is one of two computer operators for the Digital Accident Tactics Squad, known as DATS, where she works alongside her best friend and counterpart, Miki Kurosaki. The two operators are virtually inseparable, handling their duties as a pair from the organization's control room. Megumi is typically the more impatient and talkative of the two, while Miki is generally seen as more light-hearted and fun-loving. Her full name includes a pun on the color white, which reflects her partnership with a white PawnChessmon, distinguishing her from Miki who partners with a black PawnChessmon.
In her role within DATS, Megumi works primarily behind the scenes, identifying and analyzing Digimon when they appear in the human world or, on occasion, in the Digital World. She provides mission support from the control room, assisting field agents such as Marcus Damon, Thomas H. Norstein, and Yoshino Fujieda. Despite her supporting role, she is drawn into direct combat when the situation demands it. During a major invasion of the human world by an army of Digimon led by Gotsumon, Megumi and Miki joined the battle, using their Digimon partners to protect the main fighters from missile attacks and then having them evolve to their Champion forms, KnightChessmon, to fight the invaders. Following the disbandment of their DATS branch, Megumi refused to comply with the organization's new directives and was forced to go into hiding with her colleagues, later aiding in the defense of the massive Digimon ElDoradimon in the human world.
Megumi shares several key relationships within the series. Her closest bond is with Miki Kurosaki, with the two women sharing interests such as karaoke and an admiration for handsome men, including their colleague Thomas and the pop star Neon Hanamura. Both Megumi and Miki appear to have an unsubtle crush on Thomas, though this remains a minor character trait. She also participated in the final battle against King Drasil, the entity controlling the Digital World. Five years after the main events of the series, Megumi has become a police officer, serving under Commander Satsuma alongside Miki and Yoshino.
